Norene Valentour Obituary

Norene Hawkins Valentour was born on May 7, 1940 to Norman and Clara (Wells) Hawkins at her Grandmother Well’s home near Sickles, OK. She passed away on May 12, 2020 in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 80.  Norene grew up in the Sickles area and graduated from Hinton High School and then attended Southwestern College in Weatherford, OK.  She married Jerry Valentour on June 10, 1960 at Sickles Community Church, Sickles, OK.  The couple lived in Altus, OK while Jerry served in the US Air Force.  During that time they had Mark and the twin girls, Jeanna and Janna.  The family moved to Jackson, MS for a short time before returning to Hinton, OK in 1966.  They moved to Crescent, OK and then on to Oklahoma City in 1967.  Norene worked for Doric Corp. as an Insurance Analyst.  She worked in Property and Casualty Underwriting.  She is a past President of the OKC Insurance Women’s Association, and she helped launch

Educational programs for the industry.  She received the Pointer Award and was one of the first individuals in Oklahoma to earn her Certified Insurance Counselor Designation all the while working full time and raising a family.  She was very involved in the parent group of the Demolay and Rainbow Girls.  She was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church.  She was very active in Bible Study Fellowship, Prayer Team, and Bereavement Meals, President of Hearts of Hope, Mary Martha Circle, and Card Ministry, National Day of Prayer and Veterans Day Display.  Norene and Jerry were very involved in Beeping Easter Egg Hunt for the blind.  They were always willing to help people in their church and community.  Norene was very involved in her kids’ and grandkids’ activities.  Holidays were huge for Norene. She made sure all the small details were in order, even down to the wrapping paper.  Norene was active in organizing the Hawkins Family Reunions.  They have had 96 consecutive reunions. 

 

Survivors Include: her husband Jerry Valentour of OKC,OK, her children, Mark Valentour and wife Tammy of Beggs, OK,  Jeanna Hasty and husband David of Owasso, OK, and Janna Story of El Reno, OK,  7 grandchildren, Anieca Valentour of OKC, OK, Dustin McClary of OKC, OK, Danielle Hasty and Daniel Skillern of Little Rock, AR, Lauren Hasty and Stephanie Iervolino of Owasso, OK, Michael Story of El Reno, OK, Russell Story and wife Moriah of Ardmore, OK and Jacob Story and wife Kathryn of Guthrie, OK, 9 great grandchildren, Brendon, Evangeline, Zeke, Elliott, Joseph, Judah, Grissom, Niki, and Tommy; 2 brothers, Eldon Hawkins and wife Betty of Hinton, OK, and Dean Hawkins and wife Emily of Dallas, TX, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Clara Hawkins,

 

Due to the Covid 19 rules and regulations, only 50 people are permitted to attend the services. The family asks that you attend the service virtually. Services will be livestreamed via New Hope United Methodist Church, newhopeokc.org for those unable to attend.
