Michael Douglas Darnell

Michael Douglas Darnell was born February 1, 1953 to William Mercer and Macie Mae (Clarke) Darnell in Miami, OK.  He passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at his home in Watonga, OK at the age of 70.  Mike graduated from Waynoka High School in 1971.  After graduation he worked in the oilfield in the Gulf of Mexico and Wyoming, he worked as a truck driver driving from coast to coast and worked as a plumber with Chip Brookshire in Hinton and Aaron Clewell in Watonga.  Mike was a jack of all trades, he enjoyed being outside, helping Mickie, doing yardwork, tinkering around the house, working in the garden, enjoyed taking trips to the mountains in his earlier years, and loved getting together weekly to play the guitar with Lyndon Johnson and Vernon Brickman.  Mike was a member of the city council and past president of the Kiwanis Club.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Darnell.

Mike is survived by his wife Mickie Darnell of the home, Watonga; daughter, Ginni Hall and husband Joseph of Beggs, OK, daughter, Dian Phillips and husband Joe of Clearwater, KS; mother, Macie Mae Darnell of Gainesville, TX; five grandchildren, Shyanne Phillips and Eliot Dixon of Ashville, NC, Joseph Phillips of Clearwater, KS, Ty Wilder and Joseph Swarts of Tulsa, OK, Ashlynn Wilder of Tulsa, OK, and Allee Hall of Beggs, OK; one great grandchild, Jackson Phillips of Clearwater, KS; siblings, Jim Hollis and wife Mandi of Hinton, Linda Ahrens and husband Paul of Stockton CA, Janie Coffey and husband Earnest of Gainesville, TX, and Susan Hart and husband Jim of Allen, TX; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Family Viewing will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2023 from 3 PM -5 PM at Hinton Turner Funeral Home, Hinton, OK

Services: Church of Christ, Friday, 1;00 pm, May 5, 2023, Watonga, OK

Officiating:  Mr. Joe Bryan, Mr. James Cudd, Ginni Hall, Earnest Coffey
