Lloyd Gilbert Obituary

Lloyd G (LG) Gilbert was born Oct 18th 1955 to John and Isabelle (Kern) Gilbert. LG grew up in Hobart, OK were he graduated from Hobart High School in 1973. He was active in FFA, and it was during this time that he found his love of the showring. LG traveled the country fitting show cattle for shows and sales. After high school he attended Cameron University and worked for numerous ranches in the area. His love of showing was only rivaled by his love of Vickie Tucker of the Hinton area. Vickie became his wife in 1975, beginning a lifelong adventure together. The two began their married life with a move to Stillwater, OK where LG worked at the OSU dairy and the couple continued their educations. LG achieved a Bachelors of Science degree in Agricultural Education 1977. The couple moved to Navaho School where he taught High School agriculture in 1977-1978, guiding the next generation of agriculturalists. LG and Vickie began a new chapter in the summer of 1978 when the couple moved back to the Hinton/Sickles area and began their family with the addition of son John Tucker Gilbert in 1978 and daughter Amy DeAnn Gilbert in 1981. LG began working at Eakly COOP in 1978 and continued to work in the agricultural industry throughout his career. He was a Feed Sales Specialist at Eakly and later went to work for Farmland Ind as a Beef Nutrition Specialist. He then worked for Mid Oklahoma COOP as a Location Manager in Okarche. He worked as General Manager of Hydro COOP until his retirement in 2012, and was an integral part of the Hydro community. LG and Vickie’s adventures and journeys were filled with ups and downs a lot of laughter and a few tears but thru it all LG and Vickie did it their own way. He raised John and Amy in the best traditions of agricultural life. The family worked hard and played harder throughout the years as they traveled to stock shows and other events across the country. He was a pillar of support for his kids, and later grandkids, in all things. LG taught them that no challenge was too great and anything could be accomplished with love and a lot of hard work. LG instilled in the family a work ethic and dedication that carried them thru successes and setbacks. He has left a legacy of love, humor and determination that has carried his children and grandchildren to any horizon they set their minds too.

The Gilbert family grew in 2002 when John married Angi Suggs and in 2003 when Amy married Colby Hagerman.  Grandkids brought a new adventure for LG and Vickie! They enjoy the fun and adventures of Brittany (Gilbert) Parks, Garrett Gilbert, Tucker Gilbert, Kamryn Hagerman, Zane Hagerman, Izzie Gilbert, and Cai Hagerman. Then life just got better when Brittany and husband Kyle brought to the family a great granddaughter, Sutton Parks.  LG was a leader in the Limousin breed and community. He served on the Oklahoma Limousin Breed Association Board of Directors. He loved and supported the FFA organization that had such an influential role in his life and the lives of his children and grandchildren. He loved to haul kids to a stock show, speech contest, or judging contest and help any kid that needed it. He remained active with the Hydro Eakly FFA Booster Club, serving as President for several years. LG never missed the chance to help out in any way possible. He was happy to be a bus driver and sang along to every crazy song that the girls could come up. He served as a speech and creed coach or judge, bringing a practiced ear and a good eye. He always made sure everyone got a fair deal. He received the Honorary Chapter FFA Degree from Hydro-Eakly in 2000 and an Honorary State FFA Degree in 2009. In 2022, the inaugural Gilbert Family Endowed Agricultural Scholarship at OSU was awarded to students that excelled as future agricultural leaders.

LG’s retirement was filled with cattle, horses, and family.
