Floyd Ray Runnels

Floyd Ray Runnels was born October 4, 1940 in Cache, Oklahoma to Odis (Ode) Mack and Esther Elizabeth (Brandstatt) Runnels. He departed this world on Friday, October 30, 2020 at Corn Heritage Village in Corn, Oklahoma at the age of 80. Floyd grew up in the middle of a passel of children. He attended Chattanooga Elementary and then Cache High School, graduating in 1959.  Being small in stature, he was often referred to as kind of like “a little banty rooster”. He loved to ride horses, rope cows, ride broncs, and tried his luck in rodeos when he was younger as a bareback rider.  He was tough as a boot and somehow managed to escaped serious injury. He did wind up in the hospital once and had his appendix removed. As it turned out, while riding on the bucking barrel he had swallowed his chewing tobacco and there was nothing wrong with his appendix. He liked to jokingly tell the story to his kids that his scar was from “where an Indian shot me”. In the 70’s and 80’s, Floyd was an avid participant in Wild West “shootout” reenactments.

He also served as President of the Cache Chamber of Commerce in the early 80’s and was instrumental in bringing the Chili Cook-off to Cache, Ok.  He worked several years at Ft. Sill, did contract work and worked for several oil field service companies until his retirement.

Floyd truly loved his family, especially his daughters. He left his “girls” his love of dancing and each of them will carry on that loving tradition. He also had a close relationship with his sisters. He lived close by his sister Norma Jean during his later years and they visited often. He never failed to call his sisters Carol and Jo to check on them and make sure everyone was okay.

He was preceded in the death by his parents; his wife, Pat (Hodges) Runnels; his previous wife, Wilma Runnels; his daughter, Lisa Pryor; his sister, Wanda Jo Martin and her husband Bob; his brother, Billy Frank Runnels; and his sister, Norma Jean Wall.

He is survived by his four daughters: Paula Sharry and husband Marty of Hinton, OK.; Kelly Taunton and husband Scott of Weatherford, OK.; Tracey Massucci and husband Johnny of Chandler, OK.; Jan Beauchamp of Oklahoma City, OK.; 2 sons; Terry McClung of New Mexico and Danny McClung of Norman, OK.; and son-in-law Wes Pryor of Midland, TX. His brother Dale Runnels and wife Ann of Temple, TX.; His sister Nancy Carol Lynn and husband Butch of Lawton, OK.; His brother Ronnie Mack Runnels and wife Irene of Cache, OK. ; His brother in law Bob Wall of Ardmore, OK., sister in law Katchy Runnels of Cache, OK.; 15 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
