Barbara Joan Harney Obituary

Barbara Joan (Rose) Harney was born February 19, 1952 in Wynnewood, Oklahoma to William Allen "Dub" and Lillian Clorene (Coppenbarger) Rose. Dub was a deacon and made sure his family was brought up with Jesus and church as the center of their lives. Barbara loved her Lord, family and community with more love than most have to offer. She married Roger Harney on April 10, 1971. She faithfully served as a preacher's wife for 50 years, having celebrated their 50th anniversary this year. She loved her life as a homemaker raising her two sons, gardening and canning. She loved playing her piano for her Lord. She began lessons as a young girl, never having a desire to learn the classical styles, but rather loved to play the hymns of the church. She grew up playing as her family sang in church. She served in many positions, beginning as a girl carrying the preacher's Bible to him after services, then working her way up to bigger jobs such as clerk, treasurer, Sunday school teacher, and driving her car to pick up kids for church. She saw many times that she had more kids than her car could handle and decided to purchase a suburban so she could pick up more. But then she saw the times that it too was over filled. But she loved every minute. She opened Precious Memories in downtown Hinton, an antique/gift store and embroidery shop. She loved to turn out great works of art with her embroidery machine. Most of all though, she loved to use her location as a place to council those in the community who had a heartache. Many times, there would be Bible verses and advice given behind the desk as the embroidery machines ran. It was also amazing to watch the shop become a place for babysitting some of those kids she picked up for church. In 2004 she had a terrible stroke that was expected to take her life, or at the least, leave her a vegetable. She did not allow that to keep her from serving her Lord. One Sunday she attempted to aid church services in the nursing home by playing the piano when the regular pianist was not available. Upon leaving the nursing home, she loved to go to garage sales, and other places where she could find strangers she could tell about her stroke and how God had brought her through it in order for her to serve Him. Oh how she loved to talk to people and tell them about the Christ who saved her soul. She also thanked God for allowing her to survive her stroke so she could love on her grandchildren.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Roger Harney of the home. Two sons, Dwane Harney of Lookeba, Ronald Harney and his wife Angie of Lookeba. One granddaughter, Lilly AnnRose Harney of Lookeba. One grandson, Brayden Allen-Lee Harney of Lookeba. One brother, Garry Rose and his wife Pat of Sand Springs, OK. One sister, Carolyn Belair and her husband Don of Elmore City, OK. One sister-in-law, Jenny Rose of Stringtown, OK.  Numerous nieces, nephews, family and dearly loved friends.
