Robert Earl "Rob" Whitmire

Robert Earl Whitmire was born on October 13, 1954 in Westwood, California to Walter Samuel and Ida Nell (Ingram) Whitmire. He passed away on October 23, 2019 in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 65.  Rob moved to Oklahoma as a youngster with his family.  He lived in various towns in Oklahoma, graduating Gore High School in 1972 in Gore, OK.  After graduation Rob moved to the Hinton area and had various jobs from construction to oilfield work.  He moved to Texas in 1988 and began working in the tire industry.  He worked his way up to regional manager.  In 2010, he returned to Oklahoma and the oilfield.  He married Shelly Selvidge on May 26, 2012 on her grandparents’ farm east of Hinton.  After a stroke in 2018, he took a more laidback position at a dispensary and grow farm.  He found it amusing he was selling “weed” legally.   Rob’s greatest joy was spending time with his family.  He had “the best day ever” on Saturday, October 19th, visiting with his family and watching grandchildren play.  His only frustration was he could not convince Evelyn to come to poppa.   

Survivors Include; his wife Shelly Whitmire, his mother-in-law Betty, niece Katherine; his children: Robert and his wife Jamie of Norman, OK, Amanda of the home, Julie and her husband James of Moore, OK, Tim and his wife Brooke of Bethany, OK, Latoya and her husband Josh of Norman, OK and Bill of Texas.

12 grandchildren: Clayton, Colton, Kaleb, Raylynn, Shane, Parker, Londyn, Brice, Braden, Bailey, Evelyn, and Tansleigh; siblings: Leon, Bill and wife Jeannie, Tsianina, Ayuneta, and Jodon (and Jeff). Many nieces and nephews including the four he saw the most often: Ami, Emma, Kallysta and Devin.

Rob never met anyone he didn’t like, and believed family was more than just blood.  He considered Jon Booze (and wife Sharon) and Lynn Williams (and wife Vickie) as his brothers; and Ashley, Taylir, Dakota and Lili as his bonus kids.

 He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Ida Whitmire.
