Wanoma Lou Slaton was born August 14, 1932, to Wayne and Margaret (Smith) Hubbard. She passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at The Gardens at Quail Springs Assisted Living in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 93. Lou graduated from Omega High School and attended Central State College in Edmond. She was united in marriage to Harold J. Slaton on August 3, 1952, at a country church near Kingfisher, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Hinton, later moving to Mountain View, and eventually settling in Cordell, where they lived for 46 years. After retirement, they continued to live in Cordell and later returned to Hinton to be closer to family. Lou worked for many years as the office manager for Dr. William “Bill” Akers, optometrist. She was known for her creativity and talent, enjoying needlework, quilting, crafts, gardening, flowers, painting ceramics, and sewing clothes. She was a member of the Professional Businesswomen’s Association in Cordell, was active in the Cordell Main Street program and other local organizations. She belonged to the Red Hatters Club and quilting clubs in both Hinton and Cordell. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Hinton.
She is survived by her two children, LouAnn McCormick of Hinton and Greg Slaton of Edmond; four grandchildren, Amber McCormick and Lacey Morgan, both of Hinton, and Alison Slaton and Ashtyn Slaton, both of Edmond; three great-grandchildren, Mason McCormick and his wife Jordan of Weatherford, and Noltee and Nylee Morgan, both of Hinton; and two great-great-grandchildren, Mac and Miles McCormick of Weatherford. She is also survived by numerous nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Margaret Hubbard; her husband, Harold Slaton; daughter-in-law, Stacey Slaton; son-in-law, Don McCormick; one sister, Pat Challis and her husband John; brothers-in-law Harmon Slaton and Haskell Slaton; and one nephew, Gary Slaton.
Viewing will be Friday, March 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 9, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Hinton, Oklahoma, with Rev. Keith Gillham officiating. Burial will follow at Hinton Cemetery in Hinton, Oklahoma. Services entrusted to Turner Funeral Home, Hinton, Oklahoma.
