Virgil Eugene (Hoot) Putman was born June 20, 1952 to Virgil and Alma Lucille (Hughes) Putman in Minco, OK. He passed away Monday, October 16, 2023 at his home in Calumet at the age of 71. Hoot attended Minco and Geary Schools. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Gwendolyn Kuykendall July 5, 1978 in Ft. Worth, TX. He worked as a carpenter at a young age, worked in the oilfield, worked as a welder for Barrett Trailers and Hart Manufacturing, worked as custodian for the First Baptist Church in Chickasha, and ran the Kerr McGee Station in Geary. Hoot later attended Vo-Tech and received a degree in CNC Machining. He worked for J&L Oilfield Company, Sugar Creek Casino in the maintenance department, and worked as a machinist for Franklin Electric in Oklahoma City for 19 years. Eugene was very dedicated to his work and his family. He enjoyed Squirrel Hunting, looking for arrowheads, and taking the kids camping and fishing. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Geary where he taught Sunday school for many years. He was known to many as Hootie and Paga.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Lucille Putman, stepmom, Frances Putman, brother-in-law, Kenneth Kuykendall, and nephew, Phillip Baker.
He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Putman of the home, Calumet; three children, Nathan Putman and wife Keesha of Binger, Genie Goff and Samantha Putman both of Calumet; seven grandchildren, Joseph Eugene, Connor Nicholas, and Summer Hope Goff, Bryson and Alexia Shaw, Wyatt Putman, and Tia Tillis; siblings, Derril Putman and wife Anna Jo of Geary, OK, Carolyn Bogle of Rush Springs, OK, Patricia Blair and husband Dean of Geary, OK, Alma Kuykendall of Geary, OK; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
