Vermona Joyce (Shemamy) Collins

Vermona Joyce Collins was born on September 12, 1930 in Binger, OK to Charley and Lydia (Johnson Williams) Shemamy. She passed away on December 17, 2020 at her home in Gracemont, OK at the age of 90. She was a full blood member of the Caddo Tribe of Oklahoma. Vermona graduated from Binger High School in 1950 and attended Vo-Tech in Ft. Cobb, OK for nurses training. She worked as a nurse’s aide at Silvercrest Nursing Home in Anadarko, OK for 10 years. She married Harvey Collins on December 6, 1965 in Wichita Falls, TX. They were married for 55 years. She served on the Caddo Election Board for several years, was on the Johnson O’Malley board at Gracemont Schools. Vermona was more honored to be called Grandma-that’s what she loved the most.

Survivors include: her husband, Harvey Collins of Gracemont, OK, her children, Samaria Hastings of West Siloam Springs, OK, Ronnie Williams of OKC,OK, Catherine Kionute of Anadarko, OK, and Roberta Johnson of Anadarko, OK, her grandchildren, Alfred Myers Bert of Anadarko, OK, Daniel Jacob Williams of Gracemont, OK, Nolan Charles Bert of Anadarko, OK, Harvey Duane Butler of Westville, OK, Timothy Eugene Butler of Rose, OK, Stanley Darin Butler of Gentry, AR, Cinamon Hastings of West Siloam Springs, OK, Reylan Chaz Shemamy of Anadarko, OK Marvin Shemamy of OKC,OK, Amy Kelly of OKC,OK, 20 great grandchildren, and numerous great great grandchildren, and so many friends that called her Grandma, her cousin, Charlene Wright of Binger, OK, as well as many other relatives and friends.  

Vermona was preceded in death by her parents, Charley Shemamy and Lydia Johnson, her sister, Renora Shemamy, her brother, Marvin Shemamy, her sister, Marceline Pohlemann, her son, Algernon Kionute, her daughter, Virginia Grace Collins, 2 grandsons, Joseph Albin Bert and Roderick Jake Bert.   

Visitation: Turner Funeral Home, Saturday from 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM, Sunday from 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Binger, OK

Graveside Services: Murray Cemetery, Monday, 2:00 PM, December 21, 2020, Binger, OK
