She passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Teal Creek Assisted Living Center in Edmond, Oklahoma, at the age of 88.  Shirley graduated from Konawa High School in 1954 and continued her education at Draughn’s Business College. She married Darell L. Husted in 1956 of which two children, Cindy and Richard were born of the marriage. Darell preceded her in death on August 16, 1996. She and Bruce Spence, Jr. married on April 19, 1979, in Denton, Texas. He also preceded her in death on August 23, 2010, in Oklahoma City.  Shirley lived most of her life in Oklahoma City and Bethany, Oklahoma. She worked at Streets Department Store while raising her children and later worked at the Oklahoma State Capitol as Calendar Clerk for the Oklahoma State Senate. She then proceeded to work for the House of Representatives as a member of the legislative Support Staff.  During the legislative interim, she took pride in helping at the horse barn at the Oklahoma State Fair for many years. She eventually became the Administrative Assistant for the Speaker of the House and later worked at the Oklahoma State Health Department until retirement.  Shirley had a zest for life and loved traveling, going to the movies, dining out, snow skiing, beach vacations, cruising, and shopping. She was a longtime member of Church of the Servant, where she was actively involved in Sunday School and volunteering. Shirley especially enjoyed attending the legislative balls and events, living her life fully and joyfully.

She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Warren Sanders and her husband Michael Sanders of Yukon, and her son, Rick Husted of Yukon. She was a loving grandmother to Latitia Morgan of Yukon and Mackenzi Harris and her husband Shawn of Yukon, and a proud great-grandmother to Cassidy Lee of Wellston, Connor Harris of Yukon, and one great-grandchild on the way, Aliyah. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Kari Wade, Debbie Spence, and Rick Spence, all of Oklahoma City, and three step-grandchildren: Christine, Michelle, and Graham. Shirley leaves behind two sisters, Lou Nell Wilson and Retta Gilbert and her husband Otis, all of Konawa, Oklahoma, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
