Obituary

Russell Leon Bouseman was born February 14, 1937, in Kinmundy, IL to Donald Melvin and Violet Evelyn Bouseman. Russell grew up in the Alma, IL area and attended Kinmundy-Alma Schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy just before graduating, answering the call of duty, unbeknownst to the U.S. government, while still 17 years of age. During his naval service, Russell served as an electrician’s mate on the destroyer U.S.S. Warrington. He served during the Korean War time and was stationed in Newport, RI. Russell spent time in Greece, Italy, and England. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for his service. He spent the final year of his service time in a Navy hospital in Dawson Springs, KY recovering from tuberculosis.  It was during this year he finished his GED.  Upon his departure from the Navy, he enrolled in college on the GI Bill.  He graduated from Southern Illinois University with a bachelor's degree in Agriculture in 1963.  

 

Russell married Beverly Kaye Phillips on September 29, 1956.  The couple were married for 50 years until Beverly's passing on November 15, 2006. After leaving the Navy, they lived in Illinois and Indiana where Russell worked mostly in Ag sales. In 1974, their family moved to Colorado and Russ attended Nazarene Bible College.  He pastored in Hydro, OK until the family moved to Arizona in 1979 where he returned to a career in agricultural sales.  In 1989, Russell returned to Oklahoma and worked as a USDA research lab technician at Ft. Reno near El Reno, OK until his retirement in 2002.  

 

Russell married Marilyn Kay (Davis) LaFever on December 11, 2008, in Eakly, OK.  Russell was an active member of The Weatherford Church of The Nazarene and had a heart for service.  He served on the church board and taught the Senior Adult Sunday School Class.  He also served on the board at the Weatherford Pioneer Center in Weatherford, OK.  Russ loved following professional and college sports teams, especially the Chicago Cubs.  He took great pride and joy supporting his grandchildren in their sporting events, as well. 

 

Survivors include:  wife Marilyn of Weatherford, OK; three children, Russell "Rusty" Bouseman, and wife Alicia of Ithaca, NY, Marcella "Marci" Atteberry and husband Jerry of Weatherford, OK, and Andrew "Andy" Bouseman  and Launa of Edmond, OK; eight grandchildren, Jennifer McDaniels and husband Larry, Andrew Bouseman and wife Cesiley, Nicholas Bouseman all of Oklahoma City, OK, Jessica Atteberry of Fletcher, OK, Nikki Atteberry of Weatherford, OK, Zach Bouseman and wife Cheyenne of Moore, OK, Ryan Bouseman and Elizabeth Bouseman both of Washington, D.C.; one bonus daughter, Tiffany Loula and husband Mike of Eakly, OK; bonus grandchildren, Michaela Morales and husband Stephen, Karlee Rains and husband Taylor, and Trent Loula and wife Sunni all of Eakly, OK; ten combined great grandchildren; three siblings, Betty Wagoner of Avon, IN, Mary Kneemyer and Margaret Olden, both of Salem, IL, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. 

 

Russell was preceded in death by his parents Don and Evelyn Bouseman, wife Beverly Bouseman, and brothers John William “Bill” Bouseman and Andrew Gordon Bouseman.     

 

Visitation: 5-7PM, Friday, September 9, 2022, Church of the Nazarene, Weatherford, OK

Service: 2PM, Saturday, September 10, 2022, Church of the Nazarene, Weatherford, OK 

Officiating: Rev. Jeff Sikes 

Burial: Hydro Masonic Cemetery, Hydro, OK under the direction of Turner Funeral Home, Hinton, OK
