Rosa “Stella” Almaguer was born on November 15, 1935 to Max and Adela (Barilla) Gerhardt in Hale Center, TX. She passed away Friday, August 28, 2020 at her home in Watonga, OK. She grew up and attended school in Hale Center. She was united in marriage to Paul Almaguer, Sr. The couple lived in Texas before moving to Hollis, OK. They had five boys that she took great pride in raising. When her boys were in their teenage years Stella ran a home daycare with up to 30 kids at a time. Many of the kids she kept and those around town called her Mama Stella. She worked in a nursing home in Crowell, TX and at the Watonga Nursing Home until it closed. Stella was a member of the Watonga Municipal Hospital Auxilllary and a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Watonga, OK, where she was known to the little ones as “The Sucker Lady.” They could all count on her to have a bagful of suckers to pass out just before church began. She was a fun loving lady with a very big heart, and she will be dearly missed.
Survivors Include: 2 sons, Tony Almaguer and wife Julie and Jerry Almaguer all of Watonga, OK, daughter in law, Blanca Hernandez of Cushing, OK, 15 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 2 siblings, Max Gerhardt and wife Snow of Crowell, TX and Clara Garcia of Ogden, Utah, and her very best friend, LaMoyne Slay of Watonga, OK.
Stella was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Adela Gerhardt, husband Paul Almaguer, Sr., 3 sons, Paul Almaguer, Jr., Eddie Almaguer, and Fred Adam Almaguer, 2 grandsons, Blake Almaguer and Colton Chavez as well as 2 brothers, Fred and John Gerhardt, and sister, Sally Mata.
Stella’s family requests that donations be made in her memory to Trinity Baptist Church, 700 N Clarence Nash Blvd, Watonga, OK 73772.
