Roberta Carpenter Obituary

Roberta Carol Carpenter was born on May 5th, 1938 in Binger, OK, to Dale and Mary Ellen (McKim) Wakefield. Her mother passed away when Berta was 3, and Dale married Muriel who was Berta’s

mom from then on. Berta passed away December 1st, 2020, in Hydro, OK at the age of 82. It is only fitting that she passed from this world on “Giving Tuesday.” Giving is what she did best. Berta married Carl Carpenter on October 10, 1953, when she was fifteen and a half. She always made sure to include “and a half” when telling her grandkids and great-grandkids about when she got married. She and Carl made their home in Oklahoma City, Moore, and Cedar Lake before settling in Hinton in 1967. She was a stay at home mom until Carl became ill. She then worked many jobs including Sacking peanuts, chopping cotton, cleaning houses and churches, managing a convenience store, Red Rock Canyon swimming pool manager, school bus driver, and later keeping “half of Hinton” at Berta’s Daycare. Berta was a member of the Hinton Church of Christ where she taught in the nursery every Sunday morning and helped with Vacation Bible School for many, many years.

Survivors include; 4 children, Robin Brookshire and Chip of Hinton, OK, Jeannie Whitmire and Bill of Hinton, OK, Susan Jaques and Tim of Hinton, OK and Scott Carpenter and Debbie of South Padre Island, TX, 8 grandchildren; Josh Brookshire and Melinda of Hinton, OK, Jami Trujillo of Binger, OK, Jennifer Hohmann and Jarrod of Hinton, OK, Ami Whitmire of Hinton, OK, Ashley Langford and Matt of Norman, OK, Cass Jaques and Allison of Hinton, OK, Taylor Carpenter of South Padre Island, TX and Carlee Carpenter of South Padre Island, TX, 13 great grandchildren, Kallysta Vecellio, Devin Vecellio, Brynnley Hohmann, Jack Brookshire, Owen Hohmann, Beau Brookshire, Cassidy Jaques, Beck Langford, Emma Brookshire, Emma Whitmire, Rhiannon Barnett, Camilla Clair and Bear Jaques and one great great granddaughter, Saylor Ryan as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Her nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild were her pride and joy. She loved attending their activities and even continued to have them over to her home

to visit up until her passing.

Roberta was preceded in death by her father, Dale Wakefield; mothers, Mary Ellen and Muriel Wakefield; husband, Carl Carpenter; grandsons, Chad and Aaron Mitchell; and brothers, Wayne Wakefield, Glenn Wakefield, and Doyle Hice.

The family would like to especially thank the staff at Maple Lawn

Manor in Hydro for their excellent care in recent weeks.
