Robert "Fate" Hemingway Obituary

Robert Fate Hemingway was born January 9, 1935, to Arthur (Nig) Hemingway & Myrtle (Brooks) Hemingway on a farm 2 miles northeast of Hinton, OK in Caddo county.  He went home to glory April 8, 2024, in El Reno, OK.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; siblings, Jess & Glen Hemingway, Annie Stine & Ellen Findley.

He is survived by his wife, Ida Dean of the home; son, Lloyd Hemingway of Ypsilanti, MI and daughter, Tina Jordan & husband Edwin of Wichita, KS; two granddaughters, Rebekah Jordan & husband Seth Van Voorhis of Haysville, KS and Elizabeth O’Hair & Rayce of Wichita, KS; two great grandsons, Nathanael & Winston; step-daughters, Linda Santee & Dave of Arcadia, OK, Patty Noriega of Yukon, OK and Deb McKenna of Arizona; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other family & friends.

Fate accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of 14 at the First Baptist Church in Hinton, OK.  In 1958 he started attending First Church of God in Wichita, KS.  He enjoyed attending church & special meetings such as the state meeting & camp meetings.  When he & Doris lived in Hinton from 1987 to 1996, they attended the First Church of God in Geary & Fate said the only thing he didn’t do while they were there was take care of the nursery or play the piano; he even attempted to preach two Sunday mornings!

Fate graduated from Hinton high school in 1952.  He did letter two years in football.  While working for the Hinton telephone company from ’52-’57, he played town team fast pitch softball & basketball.  Then in Wichita, he also played softball & basketball with the church & the Wichita Fire Department which he worked for from 1961-1985, retiring at the rank of Captain.  Other jobs were Santa Fe Railroad Shop 1957-1961 & Wichita school security 1985- 1987.

Moving to Hinton, OK 1987, he did some truck farming & drove a school bus for about three years.  They moved to Wichita in 1996 & since he had his CDL license, he got a job driving a bus for the Wichita Bus Company hauling people who couldn’t drive.  He retired from this in June 2001.  Doris died in 2001 and he married Ida Dean Mills in 2001.

Fate has always enjoyed traveling & camping with his family.  He was in the Army Reserves for 26 years & retired as a Master Sergeant (MST)

Visitation:  Wednesday, April 10, 2024 from 6-8 PM at Turner Funeral Home, Hinton, OK

Service:  Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church, Hinton, OK

Burial:  Friday, April 12, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Greenwood Cemetery, Wichita, KS
