Rev. Larry Lee Guffey, Sr. Obituary

Rev. Larry Lee Guffey Sr. was born October 12, 1945, in Lamar, Colorado, to Leslie Lee and Peggy Lou (Brown) Guffey. He passed away peacefully at his home in Watonga, Oklahoma, on Friday, June 27, 2025 at the age of 79. He earned his GED and went on to attend Northern Oklahoma College in Enid, where he received an associate degree.  Larry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Following his service, He worked for many years as a truck driver for Bill Hodges Trucking.  On December 17, 1973, Larry was united in marriage to Patricia Beck in Pampa, Texas. Together, they built a life centered around faith, family, and service. On April 19, 1985, Larry became an ordained minister and began his lifelong calling to preach the Word of Christ. He served as pastor of Wayside Chapel in Enid and later ministered at a mission in Ardmore. Larry loved people deeply and devoted his life to sharing the Gospel.  A strong provider and trusted advisor, Larry’s family always looked to him for support, guidance, and love. He officiated many of his children’s and grandchildren’s weddings, creating lasting spiritual legacies. He had a passion for woodworking and enjoyed any project that involved working with wood.  Larry’s life was a testimony of love, faith, and service. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. 


Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Guffey of the home; children: Jimmy Bennett of Ardmore, Oklahoma; Tommy Bennett and wife Norma of Reydon, Oklahoma; Rita Welch and husband Ronald of Watonga, Oklahoma; Rowdy Brumley and wife Teresa of Wilson, Oklahoma; Laura Stage of Norman, Oklahoma; Leticia Avsec of Dallas, Texas; and Lonnie Devis and wife Lisa of Enid, Oklahoma; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, He is also survived by one uncle, Carroll Ray Guffey of Cherokee, Oklahoma; and niece April Guffey of Fairview, Oklahoma.


Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Larry Lee Guffey Jr. in 2008; Billy Dean Brumley in 2009; great-grandson Gunnar Dean Welch; granddaughter Melinda Louise Bennett; and one brother, Jerry D. Guffey and Jakob Battle Bailey.


Celebration of Life: 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 26, 2025 at His Hand Extended Church, 821 W. 2nd, Watonga, OK.
