Patricia Marie (Cavender) Johns Obituary

Allow the light and the healing presence of Christ to shine brightly through your lives. In that way, all those who come in contact with you will discover the loving kindness of God.”

— St. Pope John Paul II

Patricia Marie (Cavender) Johns, 71, of Clinton, OK, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025, after over 11 years of carrying the cross of several serious medical conditions. She was born on December 24, 1953, in Kankakee, Illinois, the daughter of Napoleon and Elsie (Rogers) Cavender. She is preceded in death by her mother, Elsie Cavender, and brothers Craig and James Cavender.

Affectionately known as Patty, she grew up in California attending St. Patrick’s Catholic School, and graduated from Arroyo Grande High School, Arroyo Grande, CA. Patty also completed Nursing Aide courses from Arroyo Grande Adult School and Allan Hancock College, Santa Maria, CA. She was the head server at Cherokee Restaurant for 13 years where she had many regular customers and served some famous customers such Oklahoma’s own Reba McEntire. Patty went to work for Walmart in Weatherford, OK, where she was a proud associate for over 20 years. Many locals knew her well and sought out her checkout line to catch up and have a great conversation. Patty was a sweet joy and light to all that knew her.

Patty was a loving and devoted mother to Roxanne Johns, Rhonda (husband Mark) Prater, and Richard Johns, a cherished grandmother to Hayden (wife Nikki) Harrington, Haylee Harrington, Desirae Holmes, Coleton Poor, Peyton Johns, Autumn Johns, and Richard Johns Jr., and great-grandmother to Dayln, Eli, Jack, Ronan, Theo, Della, Fisher, Oliver, and Thorin. She is also survived by her father Napoleon Cavender, sisters Michelle Doherty, Susan Lucero, brother Russell Cavender along with many nieces and nephews.

Patty found joy in preparing meals and finding loving gifts to celebrate holidays, birthdays, and anniversaries. Family get-togethers for holidays and any occasion delighted her, especially when it included lots of chocolate! She especially loved Thanksgiving & Christmas, and always prepared a special holiday for her family with great love. Her Chocolate Delight and Pumpkin Pie are cherished family favorites. She had a knack for mailing the perfect card and it was important to her to celebrate birthdays, graduations, and milestones both near and far. During her last years of life, while she received medical care at Clinton Therapy Center, she was devoted to the Bible and rosary as a source of strength and shared her sense of humor with the nursing staff, residents and visitors. She took a special interest in the lives of those who cared for her.

Arrangements entrusted to Turner Funeral Home, Hinton, Oklahoma. Condolences may be sent to the family at turnerfuneralhomes@gmail.com, turnerfh.net, or you can find us on facebook.com (Turner Funeral Homes).

 Ruth 1:16-17

But Ruth said:

“Entreat me not to leave you,
Or to turn back from following after you;
For wherever you go, I will go;
And wherever you lodge, I will lodge;
Your people shall be my people,
And your God, my God.

Where you die, I will die,
And there will I be buried.
The Lord do so to me, and more also,
If anything but death parts you and me.”
