Nellie Ruckman Obituary

Nellie Elaine Ruckman was born December 22, 1933, in Sickles, OK to Luther Troy and Hazel Beatrice (Smith) Hileman. She passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2020, in Hydro, OK at the age of 86.  She was raised on the family farm located 3 miles west and 2 miles south of Sickles. Nellie graduated from Sickles High School where she loved playing basketball. After high school, Nellie worked for a brief period of time in Oklahoma City as a bookkeeper for an investment firm. She married LG Ruckman December 21, 1954, in Hinton, OK at the home of LG’s grandparents. She worked as a bookkeeper at Sickles Gin & Lookeba Gin and helped LG on the farm.  Nellie started making cakes as a hobby and eventually made a business of making cakes for weddings, birthdays, showers and for many other occasions. She enjoyed making quilts, was a member of the Red Hat Society, loved to play Rook, and loved traveling to many different places including London, Hawaii, and the Bahamas.  Nellie later enjoyed attending and participating in the activities of her grandkids.  Nellie was a member of the Hinton Church of Christ where she served as Sunday school teacher, helped with vacation bible school, and worked in the nursery.

Survivors include her husband, LG Ruckman of Lookeba; her children, Rick Ruckman and his wife Tammy of Hydro, LaQuita Dixon and her husband Jim of Hinton, Linda Ruckman of Oklahoma City, Cynthia Talbert and her husband Brian of Collinsville, and Tim Ruckman and his wife Lauri of Sickles; her grandchildren, Melissa and husband Jeff, Kimberly and husband Joel, Zach and wife Jessica, Matthew, Landon and wife Toni, Devin and wife Madison, Kandice, Alex and wife Gus, Gracen, Micah, and Layla; her great-grandchildren, Lucas, Hudson, and Ryder who is on the way, as well as many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Hazel Hileman, and her sister, Romelda Mooter.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Maple Lawn Manor and Faith Hospice for all of the care, love, and support that Nellie received.
