Our beloved Michael Frank "Mike" Thompson went to be with our Lord and Savior in his heavenly home Sunday, August 16, 2026. Mike was born November 28, 1947, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Marvin "Jinks" and Kathryn (Leighton) Thompson. Mike grew up in Calumet, graduated from Calumet High School in 1966, and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. He worked from an early age, mowing yards around town and helping his father at the family hardware store frequently making trips to central Texas for implements. He also hauled hay across the countryside with lots of friends. He began farming with his uncle, Art Leighton, in 1972 and took over the operation after Art's death in June 1983, spending the rest of his life tinkering around the farm, working cattle, raising crops and simply driving around the countryside.
Mike was united in marriage to Arlene Harvey on June 24, 1983, in Oney, Oklahoma. Together they built a life centered around family, friends, farming, and their community.
Mike loved the strategy and challenge of cards; blackjack, poker, bridge, and Russian Sweat. He played bridge for years with his buddies and Sunday gatherings with Arlene's family meant Russian Sweat at Lester and Marie's house, where it became known as "the family game." His mornings began with coffee at the Cherokee, visiting with friends and catching up on whatever was happening around town.
Those who knew Mike will remember his kind, easygoing nature. He rarely became upset, never had an ill word for anyone, and was always willing to lend a hand. He was loved by many and valued the friendships he made throughout his life.
That same easygoing spirit showed most at home, where Mike was a proud dad and Papa. He treasured his time with his kids and during the last six years of his life his grandchildren became his greatest joy. Whatever the family had in mind, Mike was always happy to go along, and being the "best ever Papa" was the role he loved most.
Mike is survived by his wife, Arlene Thompson, of the home in Calumet; two children, Amanda Trumbo of Norman, Oklahoma, and Chris Thompson and wife Dallas of Calumet; three grandchildren, Madalyne, age 6, Alyssa, age 4, and Michael, age 2; two nieces, Jennifer Stansberry of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Amy Brown and husband Kevin of Yukon, and their daughters, Lilly, Annie, and Sophie; his mother-in-law, Marie Harvey of Oney, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Ron Harvey and wife Lynn of Binger, Oklahoma; many cousins and other relatives; and a great number of cherished friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin "Jinks" and Kathryn Thompson; two sisters, Susan Stansberry and Ann Thompson; and his father-in-law, Lester Harvey.
