Michael Chaloner Obituary

Michael Steven Chaloner was born December 3, 1956, to Marion Kenneth and Cindy (Palmer) Chaloner in El Reno, OK. He passed away Sunday, June 13, 2021, at Houston Hospice in Houston, TX at the age of 64 from complications after an 8-month battle with acute myeloid leukemia.  Michael’s value of hard work began early, working from the 8th grade at jobs from dishwashing to having his own newspaper route, to working at a gas station along with several other side jobs.  Clearly, based on the strong work relationships he has built and the respect he earned from his peers, Michael’s love for his work whether at his job, his church, or his community, is a testimony to his value of doing a job with all his heart. He graduated from El Reno High School in 1975. He attended SWOSU in Weatherford where he graduated with a degree in Chemistry and received his Graduate Degree of Banking from LSU, graduating in 1995. Michael’s value and love of learning never wavered. You can see it in the success of his own family. While serving in the BSU as Director of Missionaries at Southwestern, he met the love of his life. Michael and Teresa Diane Klein were married May 30, 1978, in Butler, OK. These two became one in life, in ministry, in building a family and in love. They lived in Watonga for a short time where he served in music and youth ministries. Moving to Hinton in 1979, Michael taught high school sciences from 1981 to 1982 in Hinton.  He then started his career at First State Bank aka Legacy Bank in 1982, working his way up from teller to serving as President and also mentor, teacher, ally, and partner to so many young bankers. Michael served in music and youth ministries at First Baptist Church, as well as deacon for many years and was involved in many other capacities at the church. They enjoyed ski trips with the church along with many other activities with the youth. Michael and Teresa’s ministry and leadership at church continued to the present where they have been involved with Life.Church, beginning with their move to Edmond a few years ago. Michael clearly cherished his family. No husband loved his wife more than Michael loved Teresa. No father was more proud of his children than him. And certainly no grandfather cherished his grandchildren more than this grandfather. Aaron introduced Michael to bike riding which became a big part of his life.  He would ride his bike 20 miles a day and has participated in the Hotter’N Hell Hundred twice with the last time beating his personal record by 2.5 hours. Michael made a point of buying each grandchild their very first bike. He was a board member of the Weatherford Regional Hospital, a board member of the Community Banker’s Association and numerous other church and civic organizations.

Michael was preceded in death by one sister, Denise Chaloner Stover, brother in law, Greg Klein, and mother in law, Melba Klein.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Chaloner of the home, Edmond, OK; three children, Cody Chaloner and his wife Sarah and their children, Griffin, Breck, Blair and Coen all of Stillwater, OK, Aaron Chaloner and his wife Jae Lindsay and their children, Elliot, and Luke all of Franklin, TN, and Melody Chaloner Alford and her husband David and their children, Audrey and Blake all of Edmond, OK; his parents, Kenneth and Cindy Chaloner of Shawnee Mission, KS; his sister, Tami  Allen  and her husband Mel of Mission, KS, father in law, Griffie Klein and his wife Wanda of Wichita, KS, and brother in law, Ronnie Klein and wife Teresa of Butler, OK, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
