Max Charles Clark Obituary

Max Charles Clark, age 78, of Watonga, OK, passed away peacefully at home on January 8, 2025. Max

was born on February 6, 1946, at Woodward, OK, to Max Alfred and Mary Winifred, (Winnie) Griffith

Clark. He grew up in Mutual, Purcell, Pauls Valley, and Okeene.  Max graduated from Okeene High School and Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He was a US Army veteran, serving in Vietnam from 1968—1970, and was a Purple Heart recipient.  Max and Sandy Haigler were united in marriage on September 2, 1972, at her parents’ home. They made their home NW of Watonga, where they raised their two sons, Brian Douglas and Michael Aaron.  Max was employed for many years at Hollytex Spinning Mill in Watonga, and after its closure he was employed at Diamondback Correctional Facility until his retirement. He also had a herd of cattle for

many years until his health began to fail.  Max received Jesus Christ as his savior as a young man, and he and Sandy are long time members of Oasis Church in Watonga.  Max is characterized by those who knew him best as “one of a kind.” He will be remembered for his cantankerous, onery nature, sharp wit, generous heart, and tell it like it is directness. Everyone who knew him has a funny Max Clark story. He will most definitely be missed.
