Matthew Jay “Matt” Ray was born September 7, 1956, at the family home in Pueblo, Colorado, to Harvey Leighton Clark and Caroline Lee (Thompson) Ray. He passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2025, in Calumet, Oklahoma, at the age of 69. Matt attended school in Woodward and immediately began working in the oil and gas industry, where he spent many years. He later worked as a truck driver and eventually on the farm for Jim Hollis. He was united in marriage to Diana Boone on May 14, 1991. Matt enjoyed riding horses in his younger years, fishing, going to the lake and rivers, landscaping, and running a backhoe.He worked for Danny Wright hauling heavy equipment for 4-8 years. Matt Ray helped build Cattle Jack Bridge. Diana remembers him asking her to go for a ride and there was no road; scared Diana to death! When Matt was a farm hand, his vehicle would not start, so he decided to ride his horse, Hot Rod, down Old 66 about 10 miles home. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Geary, Oklahoma.
Survivors include his wife, Diana Ray of Calumet, Oklahoma; children, Misti Meadows and her husband Nathan of Enid, Oklahoma, Brad Ray and his wife Chancy of Calumet, Tricia Barnhill and her husband Joe of Calumet, Nathan Ray of Calumet, and Justin Ray and his wife Michelle of Elkhart, Kansas; grandchildren, Landon Norton, Dakoetah Meadows, Joel Meadows, Bradley, Savanna, and Chana Ray, Katie, Christopher, and Matthew Rodriguez, Sterling and Stetson Ray, Khloe and Alex Ray, and great-grandchildren, Beau Norton, Harper Faye Stillwell, Mea Johnson, Camilla Leyva, Eli Rodriguez, Jimmy Blankenship, Kalix Rodriguez, Katie Decker, Hunter Decker, Austin Decker, and Tyler Shelby,. He is also survived by four siblings: Linda Hamilton of Oklahoma City, Viola Walker of Paoli, Oklahoma, Julia Smith of El Reno, and Mark Dean Ray of Hobart, Oklahoma.
Matt was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Clark and Caroline Ray; and siblings Harvey Lee Ray, Loren Eugene Ray, Steve Jack Clark, and Rodney Dewayne Ray.
Viewing will be Thursday, December 4, 2025 from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm at the Turner Funeral Home in Geary, OK
Services will be held Friday at 11:00 AM at the First Christian Church in Geary, Oklahoma, with Mr. Richard Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Geary, Oklahoma services entrusted to Turner Funeral Home, Geary, Oklahoma.
