Mary Anne Lawson was born May 11, 1940, in Geary, Oklahoma, to Glenn Homer and Loretta Marie (Schaller) Moore. She passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, March 31, 2025, at the age of 84. Mary Anne grew up in Geary and graduated from Geary High School in 1958. She married James Forrest Lawson on May 24, 1958, in Oklahoma City at her grandparents’ home. James and Mary Anne started their family, and she stayed home full-time when her children were young. She went to work as a substitute school bus driver and later did EMT training. Then she was needed full-time on a bus route that she drove for the next 35 years. For the 10 years following, she worked as a library aide up until her retirement at the age of 80. Just before her retirement, she served as the interim high school band director, which was one of the highlights of her career there. Mary Anne played the piano at many high school graduations, including her own. She played for hundreds of weddings and funerals over the years. She loved to garden, work outside, and tend to her fruit trees. She spent countless hours cooking and canning all of her bounty. She was always helpful to Jim and drove a wheat truck during their harvest time. She loved to sew and make bread. She attended most all her kids and grandkids activities. Mary Anne was named Honorary Blaine County Farmer of the Year in 2007. She was a member of the Bison Boosters, 4-H and FFA and Ag Booster, 50 year member of Geary Chapter F.P.E.O., and for many years hosted wrestling teams in her home during the Geary Wrestling Tournament. She was a longtime member of the Geary United Methodist Church where she faithfully served as the pianist for nearly 60 years. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
