Marla Ann Jones was born on January 29, 1962 in Bartlesville, OK to J. Lester Jones and Gladys May (Coleman) Jones. She passed away peacefully in her home to be with the lord on July 11, 2022 in Checotah, OK at the age of 60.
Marla grew up in Copan and Dewey and attended school at Copan and Dewey before going on to the Okmulgee Technical School to study commercial and graphic arts. She was a very talented artist, specializing in drawing, painting and graphic design. Marla greatly enjoyed living in the Paseo Arts District of Oklahoma City before moving to Checotah. She loved dressing up as a clown and face painting for kids, her cats and her family.
Marla worked in various aspects of the art industry. She worked at the Oklahoma Art Association for firms such as Ackerman McQueen in Oklahoma City. She served as the activities director at Epworth Villa in Oklahoma City where her son, Christopher would regularly volunteer with her. Marla did art for VZD's and was also featured multiple times in the newspaper for having kids lined up around the corner at the zoo to paint faces. She would transform them, for the day, into a lion, tiger, bear or any other animal they wanted to become! One of her biggest contributions to art was working with the Alzheimer's Association, setting the standard for expressive art sessions with Alzheimer's patients. Each year, she held a dinner and gallery for these patients and brought so much joy to everyone's life she touched. Marla was pure art.
