Mark Lumpkin, Sr. Obituary

Mark Dewayne Lumpkin, Sr., was born September 29, 1959 in Clinton, Oklahoma to JD Vernon and Osa Faye (Davis) Lumpkin. He passed away Saturday December 19, 2020 in Fort Smith, Arkansas at the age of 61 due to complications from COVID.

Mark grew up in Clinton and graduated from Clinton High School. Mark then served as a police officer for the Clinton Police Department, he also was the DARE officer for Custer county and Deputy Sheriff. He always enjoyed giving back to the community and serving the youth, he taught bicycle safety through the police department. He also served as Superintendent of the Water Department in Clinton. He was the announcer at the racetrack in Clinton and in his early days was a disc jockey called “The Outlaw”.  He and his family moved to Lookeba in 2000 and he began work at the Great Plains Correctional Facility. He then went to work for Washita County, Hinton Schools and most currently working maintenance and bus driver for the Lookeba-Sickles Grade School. He was known by the kids as “Mr. Mark”  Mark loved working around the kids and joking with the teachers and cooks at the school.

Mark served as a Children’s Pastor when the kids were young and always enjoyed designing stages and creating fun props. He also enjoyed making all the kids costumes and they often said that “he could make anything with a hot glue gun and cardboard” and he did. He was very creative and enjoyed writing. He made the best smoked ham at every Thanksgiving.  Mark loved camping and kayaking, he enjoyed spending time in the outdoors with his kids and grandkids. Marks pride and joy were his three children Mark Jr, Levon, and Mariah. He was very proud of them and would let everyone know. He was the best “Pop” and “Papa” to the grandkids and would do anything to help them whether that be at school (soda money, or forgotten homework) or visiting the girls in Harrah. Every Christmas Mark would dress up as Santa with his sleigh bells and jolly laugh and hand out gifts to the grandkids. He was looking forward to adding two more grandkids to the family soon. Mark never met a stranger and never had an enemy, he loved everyone unconditionally. His faith in Jesus never wavered no matter what life brought.
