Lynda Compton Obituary

Lynda Gayle Compton was born February 23, 1947, in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma, to Lawrence Elvis and Ocie Sarah (Robertson) McKee. She passed away surrounded by her family Monday, May 4, 2026, at Integris Portland Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 79.  Lynda was raised in Alden and graduated from Carnegie High School. She continued her education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where she earned her Master’s Degree in Special Education. She began her teaching career at Hinton Public Schools as a special education teacher.  Lynda married Phil Compton at Binger Baptist Church in Binger, Oklahoma. She later returned to Southwestern Oklahoma State University earned a second Master’s Degree in Counseling.  Lynda was a dedicated advocate for education. Alongside Frances Tuttle, Dr. Kirk, and Jack Bonny, she traveled to Washington, D.C., where she spoke before Congress to help establish CareerTech programs in Oklahoma, allowing students to receive both high school and vocational credits.  After returning to Binger, Lynda and Phil purchased Smith Home Furnishings in Hinton. In 1986, she returned to education in Hinton Public Schools, where she served as Special Education Director, Federal Programs Director, and Counselor until her retirement.  Lynda was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She accepted Christ as a child and carried her faith throughout her life, always knowing Jesus as her Savior.  She enjoyed painting, arts and crafts, and keeping an open and welcoming home. Above all, her greatest joy was being a grandmother and attending her granddaughter Addyson’s sporting events.

Lynda is survived by her loving husband, Phil Compton of the home in Binger, Oklahoma; two sons, Lance Compton of Binger, Oklahoma, and Dustin Compton and wife Carrie of Hinton, Oklahoma; one bonus son, Mustafa Awde of Binger, Oklahoma; one granddaughter, Addyson Compton of Hinton, Oklahoma; one brother, Rick McKee and wife Rita of Binger, Oklahoma; special niece, Michelle Dorsey and husband Jim of Hinton, Oklahoma, and their sons, Dylan and Dade; special cousins, John and Mable Canada, The Arkansas Bunch; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Joy Shepherd.

Funeral services for Lynda will be held at the Hinton Coliseum on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with Father Nick and Rev. Mark Price officiating. Burial will follow at Murray Cemetery, Binger, OK
