Lois Lynn Margerum was born August 11, 1946, in Freedom, Oklahoma to Roland Knabe and Sina (Whitcomb) Knabe. She went to her forever home on July 8, 2024, at the age of 77. The daughter of a career military man, she lived in several places before ending up in Enid, Oklahoma where she graduated from Enid High School. Lois graduated from Bethany Nazarene College (now SNU) in Bethany, Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She later earned her Master of Education Degree at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Ok. She met her soul mate and BFF, Roger Margerum on a blind date and they were married less than a year later in Bethany on May 20, 1978. They made their home in Geary, Oklahoma, where they raised their two fine sons. Lois taught in public schools in Kansas and Oklahoma. She taught in a private church owned school where she also served as Assistant Director. After moving to Geary, she took a position with Geary Public Schools where she taught middle school and computer lab. Lois was one of the pioneers of teaching computers in public schools. For a while, she served as a state Telemeter for the Department of Education helping teachers in neighboring schools get their computer education courses started. In 2007, Lois retired from Geary Public Schools after a combined 30+ years of teaching. She loved teaching and loved her students, many of which she maintained contact with for years. More of Lois’ passions were books and reading. One time, when she was moving, a friend said that he was not going to help her if she moved again because she had so many books. After retiring from teaching, she took a position to serve as Librarian for the Geary Public Library. Lois also found time for hobbies, one of which was crocheting. She would crochet a baby blanket for every expected newborn that she knew about. Many newborns came home wrapped in one of Lois’ crocheted blankets. Somewhere there is probably a large bag of finished baby blankets for “just in case”. Another one of her projects was to crochet a red, white, and blue lap blanket for all the veterans in Geary. Lois was a very Godly person believing and depending on her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a longtime member of the Geary Free Methodist Church, even in a day and age when Christianity is largely considered unimportant, she never wavered. Her family and friends were always on her prayer list.
Lois is preceded in death by her parents Roland and Sina Knabe and sister, Barbara Perigo.
Lois is survived by her very lucky and loved husband of 46 years, Roger, sons Justin and wife Latesha, Kendall and wife Destiney, three grandsons, Braden Hansen and wife Carlie, Duncan Margerum and Tyler Margerum and two granddaughters, Kinsey Margerum and Rylee Margerum. She is also survived by brothers, Ronnie Knabe and wife Mary, Chris Knabe and wife Brenda and sisters Rolinda Boswell, Jill Sande and husband Rich, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
If you knew Lois, you knew her favorite color was red. She even shopped around before having Roger drive to Enid to pick up her red car. The family would love for you to honor Lois by wearing red to her services.
