Lester A. Harvey

Lester Arthur Harvey was born to Herbert Walter and Dollie Pearl (Gower) Harvey on February 9, 1932, East of Hinton, Oklahoma. The family moved often around the Sickles area during his early life. He started school at Prairie Dale and when he was 11 or 12, the family moved again, this time to California where they lived for two years during WWII. 

In 1946, the family moved back to Oney and owned the grocery store. After that they moved to Hinton and ran the Hinton Hotel. Lester worked at the bakery (fried those doughnuts) and in the grocery store. 

In May 1951, he joined the Navy and was stationed in San Diego, California. He had back surgery and was discharged later that year. Lester went to Oklahoma City and worked at Tinker Air Force Base for a short period of time before going to Artesia, New Mexico to work on an oil rig. He made his way back to California working on rigs and then in industrial insulation. Lester came back to Okay, Oklahoma to help his folks again, running the grocery store. He moved back to Hinton briefly before moving to Colorado. While working on the peach farms, Lester met and married Marie Pappas on June 16, 1957, in Palisade, Colorado. They returned home to the Oney, Oklahoma area and farmed and ranched the rest of his life. He raised multiple crops including peanuts, watermelon. cotton, corn, soybeans and cantaloupes. He was a member of the Oklahoma Peanut Commission for several years. 
  

Lester went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at the Anadarko Physicians Hospital in Anadarko, OK at the age of 90.   

Lester was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Dollie Harvey, siblings and their spouses; Morris and Altha Harvey, Floyd and Nada Harvey, Russell and Nancy Harvey, Marion and Mamie Harvey, Kenneth and Mildred Harvey, and a sister Marguerite and her husband Elliott Watson.

Survivors include his wife, Marie of the home in Albert, Oklahoma, two children; Arlene Thompson and husband Mike of Calumet, Oklahoma, Ron Harvey and wife Lynn of Binger, Oklahoma, Grandchildren; Amanda Trumbo and husband Daniel of Norman, Oklahoma, Christopher Thompson and wife Dallas of Calumet, Oklahoma, Great Grand-children Madalyne and Alyssa. Lester’s good friend Ronnie Cash, as well as numerous relatives and friends. 

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made in Lester’s name to the Twin City Fire Department.  Twin City Fire Department, PO Box 6, Albert, OK, 73001.

Graveside Services: Tuesday, 10:00 AM, June 14, 2022, Hinton Cemetery, Hinton, Oklahoma.
