Once retired, Leonard made his home in Tipton, OK. He worked as a custom wheat harvester and cotton stripper with Tommy Herring. Leonard loved animals so much that he rescued a squirrel in Louisiana, brought it home, and named it Windy. Windy became his beloved pet and traveled with Leonard and his family to Yellowstone. Throughout his life, he was always rescuing animals. He had a sweet morning routine with his cat, Callie, who shared the breakfast table with him each day. Leonard spent his free time collecting tools and guns. He was a lifelong member of The American Motorcycle Association. He was also a member of Cushman Club of America and the Oklahoma Cushman Club.
