LaVern Hanes

LaVern Hanes was born May 23, 1931 to Frank Charles and Iva Fern (Brown) Hanes in Geary, OK.  He passed away Sunday, September 3, 2023 at his home in Geary at the age of 92.  LaVern graduated from Geary High School.  He and Katheriene Hedrick were united in marriage June 1, 1952 in Geary.  LaVern worked as a mechanic for Jim Collins Ford.  In 1960, Mr. Collins closed the dealership and LaVern and Bob Nance bought his shop equipment and rented his building until 1965, then they bought the old Chevrolet building.  LaVern was an avid gun collector, loved working with wood, building the cabinets in their home, and going to the Lake.  He was a Deacon and member of the New Life Assembly of God Church where he has served on the Board for many years. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Harold Hanes. 

Survivors include his wife Katheriene Hanes of the home, Geary; two children, Steve Hanes and wife Cindy and Pam Fertonani and husband Angelo all of Geary; grandchildren, Angie McDowell and fiancé Ben Conley of Mustang, Traci Hanes of El Reno, Hayli Hanes of Yukon, Tyson Hanes of Geary, Hilari Caldwell of Tulsa, and Jeremy Barrett and wife Jennifer of Mustang; great grandchildren, Presley and Keller Caldwell, Meadow and Ivey Barrett, Kolton McDowell and wife Ashleigh, and Bayler and Hayven McDowell; great-great grandchildren, twins Sunny and Luna.
