Katherine “Kat” Brown

Katherine “Kat” Brown, 94, of Geary, Oklahoma, peacefully entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. Born on September 4, 1931, in Geary, Oklahoma, to Hilary and Carrie Davis, Kat lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humble service, unconditional love, and a devoted commitment to her family and community.

Kat graduated from Douglas High School before attending nursing school. In September 1949, she married Tommie Brown in Geary, Oklahoma. To this union, two children were born: Cozetta and Jesse.

She later graduated from Lear Siegler Business School in Oklahoma City and began a long career with Liberty National Bank. Throughout her life, she also worked at Chisholm Restaurant, South Zip Trip, Cherokee Restaurant, and Geary Elementary School, where she worked in the cafeteria and as a substitute. Even after retiring, Kat wasn’t ready to slow down. Wanting to stay active and continue serving others, she returned to work for several years at the Watonga Family Care Clinic, where she enjoyed caring for and visiting with members of the community she loved so dearly.

Although she worked hard throughout her life, nothing meant more to Kat than her family. She helped raise generations with quiet strength, steady wisdom, and unconditional love. Whether it was a school program, athletic event, livestock show, birthday, or family gathering, Kat was there. Her presence was a constant source of encouragement, and her family always knew they could count on seeing her smiling face in the crowd.

She especially loved attending FFA livestock shows and proudly supported her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all they did. One of the family’s favorite stories was about one of Quinton’s show pigs that would repeatedly escape its pen, make its way to Kat’s front porch, and patiently wait for her to walk it back home. It was a story that perfectly reflected the warmth and gentle spirit that seemed to draw everyone, and even the animals, to her.

Kat loved her hometown of Geary and was one of the community’s biggest supporters. She rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Geary Bison and was a devoted fan of sports at every level. Whether it was little league, school athletics, collegiate-level sports, or professional sports, you could usually find ESPN playing on her television daily. She faithfully cheered for the Oklahoma Sooners and celebrated every Oklahoma City Thunder victory with excitement.

Her faith was the foundation of everything she did. Kat was a devoted member of Macedonia Baptist Church until its closing and later attended Geary First United Methodist Church. For many years, she faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher at Macedonia Baptist Church, where she lovingly shared God’s Word with generations of children. She was also a faithful member of the Order of the Eastern Star. 

Just three weeks before her passing, she shared that one of her greatest wishes was to go back in time and teach Sunday school once more to her great-grandchildren at Macedonia Baptist Church. It was a reflection of the joy she found in helping young hearts grow in their faith and one of the ministries she treasured most.

Kat also faithfully attended weekly Bible studies with churches throughout the Geary community. She loved studying Scripture, growing in her faith, and spending time in fellowship with others who shared her love for the Lord. Her faith was not simply something she believed, but something evident in the way she loved others, served her community, and lived each day with kindness, humility, and grace.

She also found great joy in volunteering at Angel’s Attic in Geary with the women of the First United Methodist Church, spending time reading, and making memories with those she loved. She welcomed everyone with an open heart, treating every member of her family with the same compassion, encouragement, and unconditional love. Her legacy is one of faith, generosity, and a life faithfully lived.

She is survived by her daughter, Cozetta Johnson of Geary; her four grandchildren, Felicia Austin of El Reno, Katherine “Kathy” Plumley of Geary, Jesse Thunderbull of Geary, and Kyra Crum of Kingfisher; thirteen great-grandchildren, Quinton Johnson of Geary, Jordan Webb of El Reno, Christopher Austin of El Reno, Billy Webb of El Reno, Christina Mariah Smith and her husband, DeQuan, of El Reno, Cozetta “Coe” Johnson of Edmond, Corbin House of El Reno, Dyson Plumley of El Reno, Gana Nicholson of El Reno, Dorian Plumley of El Reno, Kirsten Thunderbull, Darian Birdshead, and Devon Sparks of El Reno; twenty-one great-great-grandchildren, Kyan Lee, Lyrik Austin, Blayze Austin, Kiiah Lee, Kyson Lee, Kayson Smith, Kehlani Smith, Kyro Smith, Elena Lopez, Jayden Lopez, Zolie Graves, Elijah Fennell, Brylon Webb, Keldyn Webb, Vaela Webb, Quinton Paukei, Isaac Paukei, Isaiah Paukei, Marlowe Plumley, Mylah Plumley and Stetson Williams; nieces Sherry Davis Lynch and Debra Thompson; nephews, Lawrence Davis, Jr. and wife Maple, Clarence Davis, Jr., Michael Devereaux and Shawn Colbert; great-nephews Brandon Anderson and Michael G. Devereaux; great-nieces Rayna Anderson, Tanisha Fite, Tiffany Devereaux, and Tycee Devereaux; and great-great-niece Londyn Johnson, along with many friends and acquaintances.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hilary and Carrie Davis; her husband, Tommie Brown; her son, Jesse “Buster” Brown; her granddaughter, Dorothy “Dottie” Johnson; her brothers, Jesse Davis, Clarence Davis, Oscar Davis, Luther Davis, and Joseph Davis; her sister, Marie Devereaux; and her nephew, Gerald “Spec” Davis.

Kat’s greatest accomplishment was never measured by the jobs she held or the titles she carried, but by the lives she touched. She leaves behind a family rooted in faith, strengthened by her example, and forever grateful for the love she so freely gave. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy will continue to live on in every child she taught, every life she encouraged, every grandchild she cheered for, and every heart she loved.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at First United Methodist Church in Geary, Oklahoma. Burial will follow in the Geary Cemetery under the direction of Turner Funeral Home in Geary, Oklahoma. Services are entrusted to Turner Funeral Home, Geary, Oklahoma.
