Karla Rae Sharry was born on July 27, 1967, in Anadarko, Oklahoma, to Orval Roy and Shirley Abigail (Poor) Barringer. She passed away peacefully at her home in Lookeba, Oklahoma, on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at the age of 57.  Karla graduated from Hinton High School in 1985. While still in high school, she earned her cosmetology license. She continued her education at El Reno Junior College and Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in education. During her college years, Karla worked alongside her mother at Shirley’s Beauty Shop.  In the early 1990s, Karla began her teaching career at El Reno Public Schools. While teaching, she pursued further education and earned her master’s degree in education from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. On July 2, 1994, she married Steven Sharry in Hinton, Oklahoma.  In 2003, Karla began working at Hinton Public Schools, where she served in the elementary school and later became the principal for seven years. She retired in March 2025. Even in retirement, Karla continued to cut hair for a few longtime clients in the community. She took great joy in tending her flower garden and plants and remained passionate about education throughout her life.  Karla was an active member of the Gilbert Fossett American Legion Auxiliary, the Hinton Lions Club, and formally attended First Christian Church in Hinton. She currently attended the First United Methodist Church in Hinton. Karla will be remembered for her dedication to education, her love for her community, and the many lives she touched as both a teacher and a friend.

She is survived by her husband, Steven Sharry of the home in Lookeba, Oklahoma; her son, Raedan Sharry of Stillwater, Oklahoma; her mother and stepfather, Shirley and David Laughrey of Hinton, Oklahoma; and her stepbrother, Jeff Laughrey of Hinton.

She was preceded in death by her father, Orval Barringer.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church in Hinton, Oklahoma, with Rev. Gary Haynes and Rev. Lance Ashmore officiating. Burial will follow at Lookeba Cemetery in Lookeba, Oklahoma.
