Joy Davis was born on April 2, 1929, in Saddle Mountain, OK to David D. Calvin and Jessie E. (Smith) Chain. Joy passed away on November 23, 2022, in Seiling, OK at the age of 93. Joy graduated from Duncan High School. She received a business scholarship to Draughon’s Business College in Wichita Falls, TX. She married Charles E.B. Davis on November 26, 1955, in Duncan, OK. The couple moved to Lancaster AFB in Lincoln, NE. They welcomed four children, Cindy, Cheryl, Becky, and Mike, during their time in Nebraska. The family moved to Cordell, OK in 1964. Joy worked for Stanley Home Products and as a receptionist for Drs. Jones & Couch and for Osborne’s Farm & Home Goods as well as serving as a Nurses Aide in the Cordell Hospital. Joy fostered many children over the years. In her early 60’s she decided to become an EMT and worked on the ambulance, which inspired her grandson to become a medical doctor. After some time on the ambulance, Joy retired. She was a talented seamstress and made two of her daughters’ wedding dresses. She loved spending time crafting. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cordell, OK where she faithfully taught Sunday school until she went into the nursing home at the age of 91.
Survivors include: her daughters, Cheryl Lynn Cruse and husband Chris of Edmond, OK, and Becky Dougherty and husband Pat of Seiling, OK, her son, Mike Davis and wife Hyla of Lookeba, OK, her grandchildren, Zachary Cruse and wife Leigh Anne, Levi Dougherty, Luke Dougherty and wife Michaela, , Abby Dougherty, Myka Davis, and Haley George and husband Hayden, great-grandsons, Beckham Dougherty and Fisher George, her niece, Kathy Williams and husband Dane, her nephews, Terry Patterson, Gerald Hart and wife Sue, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, David and Jessie Chain, her husband, Chuck Davis, her daughter, Cindy Casida, her son-in-law, Steve Casida, and her sisters, Emma Hart and June Patterson.
