Joseph A. “Joe” Bruton was born March 6, 1938, on the family farm East of Hinton, OK to Archie and Edna (Gist) Bruton.  He passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2023, in Norman, OK at the age of 85.  Joe grew up on the farm. During highschool he played basketball and enjoyed driving his 57 Chevy. He graduated from East Walnut School in 1957.

He immediately went to work with his brothers as a paint contractor.  

As time went on Joe worked alone in his paint contracting business.  He married Barbara Kurek on May, 23, 1980 in Cogar, OK.  The couple moved to Nashville for nearly 20 years and then relocated back to the Norman area in 2004.  Joe enjoyed visiting the family farm and taking care of the lawn and property there.  He enjoyed going hunting with his son Joe.  He was a hard-working man with a quick wit and great sense of humor.  He loved his family dearly.  Joe was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. 

 

Joe is survived by his wife Barbara of the home in Norman, OK, 5 children, Laurie Burt and husband Donnie of Guthrie, OK, Joe Bruton and wife Cari of Edmond, OK, Beth Dye of Norman, OK, Julie Phillips and husband Dwight of El Reno, OK, Martin Gage of Ft. Worth, TX, 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren as well nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents Archie and Edna Bruton, 5 brothers, Lee, John, Sam, Frank, and Casual, and 2 sisters, Evelyn Bruton and Syble Bohdhus, 2 infant siblings, and a niece and nephew.

 

Viewing will be held Monday, January 1, 2024, from 1-6PM, and Tuesday 9-service, Hinton Turner Funeral Home, Hinton, OK.
