Jon William West, Hestoxee’e (walks last) was born December 4, 1952 to Lemuel and Minnie (Hauser) West. He passed away Saturday, November 21, 2020 in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 67. Jon moved from Kansas to Oklahoma with his family as a youngster. He attended El Reno schools before moving to Calumet, OK in Jr. High School. Jon graduated from Calumet High School in the class of 1971 where he served as Vice-President of his class. After graduation Jon was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served his country during the Vietnam War. Upon being discharged from the Army he bought a car and began to travel the county. Jon worked for some years for the Indian Arts Council. Jon reconnected with his first love after 45 years, Jon and Betty were devoted to one another. The couple has made their home in Calumet for the past 7 years. He was a Sundancer, a member of the Cheyenne Warrior Society, Kit Fox, counselor of Native American youth, and teacher of Cheyenne customs and how to integrate those into modern life. Jon was a history buff. He loved to talk with people and was a gifted listener. Jon had a gentle spirit and will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
Survivors include: children, Benjamin Levi West and wife Bianca of West Orange, NJ, Niandra Fawn Murillo and husband John of Sapulpa, OK, Dwayne Gillespie of Oklahoma City, OK, Savannah West of Oklahoma City, OK, and Caleb Phillip West of Oklahoma City, OK, 5 grandchildren, siblings, Lance Henson, Dana West, and Kimberly West as well as numerous adopted relatives and friends from many different tribes.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents Lemuel and Minnie West and brother Michael West
Viewing will be held Wednesday, 12-9PM at the Turner Funeral Home, Geary, OK.
