Joe Paul Riley Obituary

Joe Paul Riley was born May 4, 1949, in Guthrie, OK to John Terrell Riley, Jr. and Helen Johanna (Maloney) Riley.  He only weighed 3 lbs. 2 oz. However, his doctor said he had a strong heart so he knew he would make it.  He was so small he could fit in a shoe box.

Joe lived in Guthrie, Duncan, Clinton, Leedey and finally in Hinton.  He attended first through ninth grades in Leedey and graduated from Hinton in 1968.

Joe started working at a young age.  He and his brother Terrell had a lawn mowing business while living in Leedey.  They mowed a large majority of the lawns in Leedey, and many of their customers were upset when they relocated to Hinton.

While in high school he worked at the Red Bud Grocery and continued working there after graduation.  He worked in the oil field for some years and then for Glen and Jane Harvey in their farming operation before retiring due to health issues.

Joe always had a smile on his face and could make you laugh.  He enjoyed going to car shows and car races.  His favorite car shows were the ones where his Uncle Francis showed his restored 1928 Model A Ford.  The Model A was originally owned by his father, John.

Joe was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hinton.  He was loved by many and will be truly missed.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Riley, siblings, Ellen Riley, John Terrell Riley, III, and Linda Riley.  Survivors include his sister, Carolyn Riley of Clinton, OK and aunt, Nadine Riley of Kamay, TX, as well as several cousins, other relatives, and a host of friends.

Please send memorial donations in Joe’s memory to Hinton Public Schools, PO Box 1036, Hinton, OK, 73047
