Joann Laverne Nitzel Obituary
Joann Laverne Nitzel was born July 15, 1940 to Theodore “Ted” Adam and Doreen LaVerne (Penwright) Nitzel. She passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at the Arbor House of Mustang in Mustang, OK at the age of 84. Joann graduated from Calumet High School and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha, OK. Joann taught school for many years in Burkburnett, TX. After retiring, she moved back to the Calumet area. She was actively involved in the El Reno Carnegie Library and the Canadian County Genealogical Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and LaVerne Nitzel and two brothers, James L. “Jim” Nitzel and Theodore Ray Nitzel.
Survivors include, three nephews, Theodore Nitzel and his wife Nicole and their children James R. Nitzel, Abigail M. Nitzel, and Sarah L. Nitzel of Calumet, OK, Roger Nitzel and wife LeNisa and their children Jamie S. (Nitzel) Bagwell, Jordan N. Nitzel, and Rebekah J. Nitzel of Crowder, OK, and Bradley Nitzel and his girlfriend Sara Rhoades and his daughter, Makyla J. Nitzel of Calumet, OK; and many other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations to the El Reno Carnegie Library or the Canadian County historical museum or the library of your choice.
Memorial Services will be held at Calumet First Christian Church, Monday, 2:00 PM, July 22, 2024, Calumet, OK
