Jo Ann Lanier Obituary

Jo Ann Lanier went to be with the Lord in Heaven on Monday, September 18, 2023. She passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by loved ones and her dog, Muffin, in Binger, Oklahoma. She was 85 years old.  Jo Ann was born on October 27, 1937, five miles north of Erick, Oklahoma, to Frederick Ira Reed, and Violet Hazel (Bell) Reed. Growing up on a family farm, Jo Ann had a strong work ethic. She would get up very early in the morning to milk cows, then would catch the bus to get to school. She attended Hext Public Schools during her elementary years followed by Sayre Public Schools, where she graduated high school. She grew up attending the Nazarene Church in Erick, Oklahoma and accepted Jesus as her personal savior at a young age.  After graduation, Jo Ann began working at Cal’s Cafe in Sayre, Oklahoma.  While there, she met her first husband and they made their home near Albert, Oklahoma. They were married for 32 1/2 years and had two daughters. Much like her childhood, Jo Ann raised her daughters on a family farm and instilled a strong work ethic in them and enjoyed supporting them at their ball games.

Some years later, Jo Ann met the love of her life, Guy Lanier. They were married and lived very happily for 10 years in Eakly, Oklahoma until he passed away. One of her favorite hobbies while married to Guy was going to the local community centers and listening to his band play music while dancing along.  After the death of her beloved husband, Jo Ann moved to Binger, Oklahoma and became an active member in the community. She joined First Baptist Church of Binger and was well known for volunteering her time and resources to the church. She was a genuine, gentle, and faithful servant of God. She never met a stranger and always greeted people with a big “Hello”; and bright smile, followed by a sincere invitation to her church.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, F. I. and Hazel Reed, husband, Guy Lanier, brother, Leon “Bud” Reed, son-in-law, Emmett Waller, and her best friend, Susie Clark.

Jo Ann is survived by her two daughters, Vicky Nelson and husband Rynol of Minco, Oklahoma, and Twila Buie of Binger, Oklahoma, 5 grandchildren, Kristen Brown and husband Jason of Leedey, Oklahoma, Katie Steers and husband Randy of Ada, Oklahoma, Mindy Pham and husband Anthony of Moore, Oklahoma, Aubrey Ryan and wife Kandy of Sarasota, Florida, and Torri Buie of Weatherford, Oklahoma, and 11 great-grandchildren, Ainsley and Shiloh Brown, Asa, Abigail, and Aaron Steers, Izzie, Emma, and Millie Pham, Addison and Kabrey Ryan, and Peyton Davenport, son-in-law Terry Buie as well as a host of other loving relatives and dear friends.

The family would like to give a very special thank you to Terry Lisenbery and Janet Lee for their constant support and care of Jo Ann during the last few years of her life. Also, a heartfelt thanks to Enhabit Home Health and Russel-Murray Hospice for their medical and comfort care.

Please join us in celebrating a remarkable life, well lived by a wonderful soul. Our dear Jo Ann, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother has come into the light of the Lord. She has followed him always and is now at rest in His mercy, peace, and love.
