JANICE ANN PETERS COOKE

Entrance - August 31, 1952

Departure - March 2, 2025

Janice was born in Pauls Valley OK, to the late Ezell Peters and the late Geneva Anderson Peters.  They later made their home in Oklahoma City OK, where Janice attended and graduated from Douglas High School in 1970 and was proud to be a Douglas Trojan.  In continuing her education, she attended many different Universities.  Langston University, Dillard University in New Orleans, where she received her nursing degree, and Oklahoma City University. During the covid epidemic, while the world seemed to come to a halt, Janice spent her time studying online at the University of Phoenix and received her doctorate in Philosophy. Janice was not one to boast, and not many knew she had achieved this esteem degree.  When asked why she didn’t announce it, she replied, it’s just a piece of paper that says I wrote a lot of unnecessary theories that people don’t really use.  I was just bored and had a lot of time on my hand. 

Janice was blessed with her daughter, Ayana Alexander, who was the greatest gift God had given her.  She and Ayana were like best friends, and she was so very proud to announce to people that Ayana was a navy veteran.  Unfortunately, Ayana’s sweet life ended at a young age.  Janice kept her memory alive by telling stories of Ayana and their shopping spree adventures.

Janice had an angelic voice and started singing at a very young age.  Growing up, her family were all members of Fairview Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, and this is where Janice started her love for Christ. When Janice relocated back to OKC she returned to Fairview and served in the choir and nurses ministry.  You would hear her say, Fairview will always be home. Janice also sung with different choirs throughout the US as she was a traveling nurse.  One of her proudest times is when she lived in Chicago and sung with the Chicago Mass Choir.

Janice was united in matrimony to Paul Cooke, whom she met in Jamaica.  She and Paul traveled many places while she was working as a traveling nurse.  But one place she absolutely loved was Jamaica, where she made her home for a while before moving back to the states.

Janice eventually made her way back to the Anderson farm, in Binger, OK, where she loved living in the country.  She loved fishing and sitting outside looking at the wonders of God. If she wasn’t outside visiting with her dear friends, she may be in the house sewing and listening to her gospel songs.   She was a very humble, loving, forgiving person, who never met a stranger. If you ever were blessed to have been her friend, you were indeed a friend for life.  It didn’t matter to her if you had all the riches of the land, or down on your luck, she treated everyone the same. Janice loved her family, and she was truly loved also.  We have so many cherished memories of the family reunions we attended, especially the ones out on the Anderson farm.

Janice was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Binger, OK and later joined Greater 1st Baptist Church in Anadarko, where she stated this is now her new home.  Oh, how she blessed us with her God talent singing voice.  She loved her church family, and the love was reciprocated back to her.  Singing on the praise team was her joy, and that beautiful smile would show how much she enjoyed praising God. Her mission sisters held a special place in her heart. Janice also sung with the Chickasha Community Choir.

On March 2, 2025, Janice was met and welcomed to her heavenly home by her daughter, parents, and many more family members.

Her memories will be cherished by her husband, Paul Cooke of Jamaica, mother in law, Gloria of Jamaica, Brother and Sister in laws: Tansingth of GA, Michelle, Evelyn, Sonia, Pauline, Peter, Kelvin Gordon, Herbert, Danny all of Jamaica, Uncle: Chester Anderson of CA, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and many close friends that she cherished like her own family.  Janice also had many she loved and called her bonus sons and daughters. When she loved, she loved big.
