James Marshall Slay was born on September 20, 1941 in Elgin, OK to James and Trixie Maetta (Franks) Slay. James passed away on October 3, 2024 at his home in Greenfield, OK surrounded by his family, at the age of 83. James was born and raised in Oklahoma and although his family traveled frequently for work, he grew up mostly in the Watonga area. When James traveled to California, where he met Shirley Gallaway. The couple fell in love and married. They moved back to Oklahoma to make their home, and James began working in the oilfield which he continued to do until retirement. He loved to hunt, fish and trap, loved to make you laugh, was always tinkering with something in his barn, building shelves for Shirley, making crosses, making wagons; he could build anything. He loved his daughter, Teresa, loved all his grandchildren, and loved Shirley more than anything. He was the best husband to the best wife.  He will be missed by all those who loved him so much.

Survivors include: his wife, Shirley of the home , his daughter, Teresa Farrow and husband Tom of Henryetta, OK, his grandchildren, Mika Annis and husband Larry of Bellevue, NE, Royce Malicott of El Reno, OK, Chasey Chappell and husband Landon of Yukon, OK, and Dakota Boswell of Greenfield, OK, his great grandchildren, Dayton Sollars, T.J. Hansford, Amelia Annis and Emerson Annis, as well as many other relatives and friends.

 James was preceded in death by his parents, James Slay and Trixie Brannum, and his brothers and sisters.  

The family will hold Memorial Services at their home, 220 E. Monroe, Greenfield, OK 73043.
