Loyd Jackson "Jack" Randel was born on February 9, 1939 in Depew, Oklahoma, to Maxine Utter Randel and Tyruse Jackson “Jack” Randel, and he passed away July 2, 2023 in Oklahoma City, OK, at the age of 84.

Raised in Oklahoma City, he graduated from Northwest Classen High School and attended both Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma. He worked in the restaurant business, owned a motorcycle shop and eventually returned to the family business, Randel’s Muffler Centers.

From the early age of 11, Jack was in the “muffler business” working alongside his dad. By the time he was a senior in high school, he was already managing his first muffler shop. In the mid-1960’s Jack served as vice president of the company, playing an integral role in the company’s expansion to five locations and a manufacturing plant. In 1969, Jack took over the day-to-day running of the business. Throughout his career he built and opened over fifty muffler shops for himself and others.

Jack loved his work. He loved serving people, and his customers became friends. Taking care of customers was his true passion and nobody did it better. It was also important to him to share his love of the industry to the next generation, which made working alongside his eldest son Jimmy very special.

Jack was a longstanding member of Southern Hills Baptist Church, serving as an usher and traveling on mission trips to Peru and Belize. He loved the Lord with all of his heart. He was also an avid reader, loved to travel, loved Braum’s ice cream and anything sweet. Some of his favorite sweets were key lime pie and fried pies, which were a must-stop on the way to and back home from Dallas. Jack definitely thought sweets were their own food group and could be eaten before any meal or at any time of the day or night.

Everybody loved Jack! He truly never met a stranger and those who were, were not strangers for long. No matter the age – kids, adults, and even pets – he was loved by everyone. He was also incredibly kind to all – especially someone in need. Affectionately called Papa or Popsie by his grandchildren or Uncle Jack and UJ by his nieces and nephews, he loved spending time with his family and friends more than anything.

Jack is survived by his wife of 51 years, Guyona Lanier Randel of Oklahoma City, OK; son Jimmy Randel of Oklahoma City, OK; son Kevin Randel and wife Andrea of Seattle, WA; daughter Kim Randel of Dallas, TX; daughter Kristi Randel Bare and husband Jody of Dallas, TX; sister Jo Leta Dines and husband David of Sulpher, OK; grandchildren, Brittney Randel of Atlanta, GA; Torre Randel of Oklahoma City, OK; Alexis Randel of Denver, CO; Evan Bare of Dallas, TX; and Cameron Bare of Dallas, TX; and many beloved nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-grandnieces and grandnephews, extended family members and friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his father Tyruse Jackson “Jack” Randel and mother Maxine Randel Maynor.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Southern Hills Baptist Church, 8601 S. Penn, OKC, OK on July 29, 2023 at 10 a.m. in the chapel.
