Obituary

Harry Dean “Buster” Smith was born on September 17, 1942 in Laverne, OK to E.S. "Smitty" and Wilda Maude (Taylor) Smith. He passed away on March 12, 2023 at his home in Geary, OK at the age of 80. Harry grew up in Iraan, TX and graduated from Iraan High School. He went to college in Midland/Odessa and earned his degree in engineering and blueprints. He owned and operated Smitty’s Welding & Oilfield Services and was known as Buster to many of his friends and coworkers. He married Sofrona Odom on July 2, 1964 in Iraan, TX. Harry worked on the Amistad Dam in Del Rio, TX with the Army Corp of Engineers and did most of the preliminary work; welding caps at the fissures and was involved in preserving the Native American cave drawings that were discovered.  They moved to Oklahoma City in 1970 and to Geary in 1971. Harry worked on welding boat docks at area lakes among other projects. One of his fondest dreams was to learn to fly but could not due to his eyesight however, he was flown out to offshore jobs almost daily while in Alaska. One of his hobbies was building and flying model airplanes. He loved spending time with his friends and family at Lake Tenkiller and Fort Cobb, he enjoyed scuba diving, fishing, and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle with Sofrona. He loved his family and was deeply loved in return. He will be missed by all those who loved him.

 

Survivors Include: his wife, Sofrona Smith of the home Geary, OK, his children, Tim G. Smith of Weatherford, OK, Niki (Nellie) Golden and husband Shane of Geary, OK, and Daryl Cross and husband Evan of Boerne, TX, his grandchildren, Jacoby Smith of Weatherford, OK, Jade Skinner and husband Kyler of Tulsa, OK, Morgan Golden of Geary, OK, Corbin Cross of Minneapolis, MN, and Carly Cross of Fayetteville, AR, and two great grandsons Kasen and Kyser Skinner of Tulsa, OK, as well as many other relatives and friends.

 

Harry "Buster" was preceded in death by his parents, E.S. "Smitty" and Wilda Smith.
