Glenn “Bert” Funk, age 80, was born on May 6, 1945, in Elk City, Oklahoma, He was raised by his parents, Guy O. Funk and Lois M. Funk, in Anadarko, Oklahoma, where he attended school and graduated from Anadarko High School in 1963. On June 27, 1964, Bert married the love of his life, Carol Jarel, at Oney Baptist Church. Together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work. They made their home in Anadarko for many years before moving to Oklahoma City in the 1970s. Bert proudly served his country in the Oklahoma Army National Guard for a total of 28 years. He served 10 years as an enlisted soldier before attending Officer Candidate School (OCS) and serving an additional 18 years as a commissioned officer. During his distinguished military career, Bert served as Battery Commander for multiple field artillery units, including those in Anadarko, Chickasha, Duncan, and Enid. He retired with the rank of Major, a role he fulfilled with dedication, leadership, and honor. In addition to his military service, Bert worked at the Oklahoma National Stockyards, and following his retirement from both careers, he spent 15 years working at Dealers Auto Auction in Oklahoma City. Bert was a lifelong farmer, raising swine and cattle on the family farm in Anadarko. He had a deep love for agriculture and especially enjoyed teaching his granddaughter Terra about the farming operation, eventually entrusting her with the cattle business. He treasured time spent camping at the lake in his RV with family, hunting with Tyler, and faithfully attending Mackenzie’s soccer games. Bert and Carol were devoted fans of OU football and the Oklahoma City Thunder, but Bert’s favorite team was always whichever team Terra was playing for or coaching. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Anadarko and also attended Cowboy Church.
Bert is survived by his loving wife, Carol Funk of Oklahoma City; his children, Cheryl Funk of Anadarko, Rodney Funk and wife Amy of Newcastle, and David Laase and wife Diane of Oklahoma City; and his bonus daughter, Marilyn Bryant of Oklahoma City.
