George Lester Fitzhugh, Jr. Obituary

George Lester Fitzhugh, Jr. was born on January 26, 1945, in El Reno, Oklahoma, to George Lester Fitzhugh, Sr. and Nancy Jane (McIntyre) Fitzhugh. He passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, at The Heritage at Brandon Place in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 80.  George attended Geary Schools, where he excelled in athletics, especially football. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Mary Brooks on May 4, 1968, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Oklahoma City where George worked for PepsiCo and later for Athenian Marble where he was employed for 20 years.  In 1988, George founded Fitzhugh Termite and Pest Control, a family-owned business that continues to operate today under the leadership of his son, Bryan. George and Mary lived on an acreage outside of El Reno in the early 1980s before moving into town. They later moved to Yukon in 1994. Following retirement, they enjoyed living in Gulf Shores, Alabama, beginning in 2017, then resided for a short time in Hot Springs, Arkansas, before returning to Yukon in 2022.  George loved traveling to Costa Rica, fishing, spending time at Lake Texoma, T-Bird Cars, RVing, and meeting friends for coffee. He never met a stranger and was known for his warm personality, quick wit, and love of telling jokes. He attended Mount Zion United Methodist Church in El Reno and Mayfair Methodist Church in Oklahoma City.


Survivors include his loving wife, Mary Fitzhugh of Yukon; son, Bryan Fitzhugh and Angela of Yukon; three grandchildren, Brenden Fitzhugh of Dallas, Texas, Cooper Fitzhugh of Wisconsin, and Presley Fitzhugh of Edmond, Oklahoma; one brother, Melvin Fitzhugh and his wife Cathy of Yukon, Oklahoma; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and a host of friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents, George, Sr. and Nancy Fitzhugh, and two brothers, Johnnie Fitzhugh and David Fitzhugh.

Graveside memorial services with be Saturday, 1:00 pm, November 1, 2025 at the Watonga IOOF Cemetery, 80646 N. 2590 RD, Watonga, OK 73772 services under the direction of Turner Funeral Home, Hinton and Geary, Oklahoma.
