Gayla S. Lowman passed away peacefully at her home she shared with W. Dwayne Merrell on Sunday, October 15, 2023 in Choctaw. She was born March 9, 1960 in South Korea then adopted and lovingly raised by her parents Gale W. and Dorothy I. Lowman in Harrah, OK with her brother Guy T. Lowman. Her childhood was spent with countless adventures with her many cousins including Andy, Mike, David, Kathy, Timothy Lowman, Pamela (Lowman) Hoang, and Debbie (Lowman) Kinnard.
After graduation from Harrah High School in 1978, she moved to New York to study art at the New York Art Institute, which at that time was her passion in life. Her beautiful oil paintings are displayed in businesses and homes in Oklahoma. Prior to returning to her home in Oklahoma Gayla traveled the world for six months. Upon her return she attended the University of Oklahoma and obtained her Bachelors of Science degree in Political Science. Gayla always worked hard, and was promoted as a Director of an Information Technology Department for nearly 30 years before retiring in 2019. She has spent her retirement finding joy in bird watching and baking for her loved ones, having tea parties with her niece and nephews, nurturing her flowers and plants, and taking care of her beloved cats over the years, Charmin, Lacey Liu, Louie, and survived by Bella.
Gayla was preceded in death by her father, Gale W. Lowman, her mother Dorothy I. (Rose) Lowman. She is survived by her partner, W. Dwayne Merrell and his children, son Doss Merrell of Breckinridge, CO, and daughter Kaitlyn (Merrell) and her husband Kalvin Burghoff and their daughter Kwinn Lillie Burghoff of Tulsa, OK, Brother Guy T. Lowman, Nieces Le Ann N. (Lowman) and her husband Shane Keenan of Harrah, OK, Angela D. (Kelly) and her husband Anthony Aguilar of Harrah, OK, Miranda A. Poff and her significant other Dusty Mutzig of El Reno, OK, her Nephew Seth Lowman of Chicago, IL. Many great-nieces and nephews - Dylan A. Goforth, Diego T. Aguilar, E. Mason Goforth, Kaleb N. Robertson, Dominic A. Aguilar, Jacob L. Robertson, Alyson N. Goforth, Corbin P. Keenan, Dante A. Aguilar, Hayden T. Keenan, Easton J. Keenan, Shalyn Mutzig, Calista L. Lowman, and Caylina R. Lowman.
Gayla lived her life with adventure and had a love that will be missed by all her family and friends. A celebration for life will be held at a later date.
