Ethel Irene (Choat) Gooden was born June 19, 1927 to Hollis Dewey and Effie Rachel (Dowling) Choat in Mt. View, OK.  She passed away Monday, May 29, 2023 at the River Oaks Nursing Home in El Reno, OK at the age of 96.  Ethel lived in the Geary area from the age of 12.  Ethel was united in marriage to Russell Gooden September 6, 1946 in Geary, OK and he preceded her in death in June of 1994 in Geary.  She was a cook in several different industries including schools, nursing homes, hospitals, and for individuals. Ethel moved to Mannford in 1997 where she met and married Vernon Nelson September 8, 2001.  She enjoyed sewing, cooking fishing, singing, and going anywhere. She was a member of the Coleman Chapel Nazarene Church for many years and attended as often as she could throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, her son, Gene Gooden, and four brothers and two sisters. 

Ethel is survived by her daughter, Nina Vaught and her husband Mike of Mannford, OK; daughter-in-law, Bobby Gooden of Geary; grandchildren, Russell Shane Vaught and his wife Lisa of Bartlesville, OK, Diamond Cleveland of Geary, Frank Fetters of Yukon, and LaDonna Williams and her husband Rodney of Hinton; great grandchildren, Kira,  Kyler, Rocky, Josh, Rodney, Felicia, Dustin, Jimmy, and Ashley; 12 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Peggy Massey of Calumet, OK, Julene Crawford of Tahlequah, OK, and Floyd Choat of  Rainbow, TX; and many nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.    

Viewing will be Saturday June 3, 2023 from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, and Sunday June 4, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm. At Geary Turner Funeral Home, Geary, OK
