Esther Lenora (Robinson) Moorhead Obituary

Esther L. (Robinson) Moorhead was born on September 15, 1931 to Hardy and Iva (Bright) Robinson. She passed away on October 27, 2025 in Geary, OK at the age of 94. She attended Geary Schools. While in high school, she was encouraged by her parents and home economics teacher, to pursue her dream of teaching. She comes from a family of teachers. Father Hardy taught in a one room school for several years. Her paternal grandfather, I.A. “Bob” Robinson taught the first school in Blaine County in a dugout during the fall of 1892. Esther enjoyed her high school days, especially home economics. She served as President of Future Homemakers her senior year. Enrolling at Oklahoma A & M at Stillwater in Home Economics was a dream come true. So many wonderful opportunities and challenges. She graduated May 1953 with a BS degree in Vocational Home Economics. Esther was active in several campus groups like Home Economics Club, serving as President during her senior year. And Wesley Foundation Religious group. Esther began her teaching career in Clinton, OK. While there, she met Doyle Moorhead, also a teacher. They were married in 1955. She taught in several schools and completed her career with 25 years at Berryhill Public Schools in Tulsa. She retired in 1987 with a total of 32 years of teaching. In 1977, she was selected by the faculty as Berryhill Public Schools ‘Teacher of the Year’. It was one of the highest honors of her career. Some of her most treasured memories are of the excellent teachers she had the privilege of working with and watching young people grow to become good and productive members of their communities. She has been blessed by continuing friendships and contact with fellow teachers and students.  Esther’s leadership roles in professional organizations over the years included the following: President of the Home Economics Division of the Oklahoma Vocational Association, Treasurer of the Oklahoma Home Economics Association, President of Tulsa Home Economics Club, lifetime member of Oklahoma State University and past President of OSU Home Economics Alumni Association. She had the privilege of organizing the Berryhill Chapter of Young Homemakers of Oklahoma (YHO). She sponsored the Junior class for many years, and organized Jr-Sr Banquets. Although she and Doyle had no children, Esther averaged about 100 each year, including some boys, what a challenging but very rewarding experience.

In 1990, she and Doyle moved back home to Geary, making a 35 year circle. Doyle’s health declined and he passed away in 1996. Esther stayed busy doing lots of volunteer work, especially, the Canadian River Museum. She was a member of the First Christian Church, served on the board, helped with youth, and served on the Geary Library Board and Geary Fair Board. In 1997, she was pleasantly surprised and honored to receive the annual “Citizen of the Year” award presented by the Geary Chamber of Commerce. Esther has the title of “Mother Hen” from many of her classmates. She assumes this is because she appointed herself to stay in touch with classmates by newsletter or clippings, sharing both happy and sad events that touch each of us. She was actively involved in organizing the 15th, 25th, 40th, and 50th Class of ’49 GHS Reunions. She is known by the youth as the Brownie Lady because she makes delicious brownies to share with youth group.

Esther is preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Moorhead; her parents, Hardy and Iva Robinson; and her brother, Bobby June Robinson, brothers in law, Dwight Moorhead and Robert Moorhead, and Ivin Trontham, and Carol Bertholow, and sisters in law, Emma Lou Moorhead, Emma Lee Bartholow, and Helen Moorhead.

Esther is survived by her family of several nieces, nephews, cousins, a special friend, Kay Van Arsdale of Tulsa, and her dear friend, Linda Austin and husband Jr. of Geary, Oklahoma, as well as many cherished friends, former students, and community members who were blessed by her friendship and mentorship.
