Ernest Frank Bierschenk Obituary
Ernest Frank Bierschenk was born January 21, 1924 in Edmond, OK to Charles and Ella May (DePlois) Bierschenk. He
passed away on February 16, 2025 in Boerne, TX at the age of 101. Ernest graduated a year early from high school
and enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17, determined to “fight the good fight” against the Nazi uprising
overseas. In 1942, just months after the United States entered World War II Ernest’s older brother, Henry, was
drafted and Ernest followed him into service. Ernest was part of the Army’s Military Intelligence Service in
WWII and in Vietnam, when he re-enlisted to serve his country once more. Ernest saw military action in the
European Theater during WWII, primarily in Belgium. In Vietnam he was wounded during his years in the
conflict. Ernest was identified as “highly intelligent” by the Army and was sent to language school, where he
learned three Southeast Asian dialects. He also spoke French and German. During his tours of service he
earned numerous awards including the Combat Infantryman’s Badge in World War II and two Silver Service
Stars and a Bronze Star Medal in Vietnam. After finally retiring from the military, Ernest moved to Edmond,
OK, where he worked as a Certified Public Accountant before retiring. He moved to Boerne, TX in July 2015.
In his free time he loved to play chess and spend time with his extended family. Known as Uncle Ernie by
some and “Fritz” by others, he will be missed by all those who loved him.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ella Bierschenk, his brother, Henry Bierschenk, and his sister,
Wilma Blair.
Survivors Include, his sister, Charlene Wigington of Corpus Christi, TX, and multiple nieces and nephews.
