Elmer O. "Buddy" Mathews

Elmer "Buddy" Olen Mathews was born February 11, 1937 in Cleburne, TX, to Arnold and Hazel (Underwood) Mathews.  He passed away, Thursday, September 9, 2021 in El Reno, OK, at the age of 84.  Buddy moved to Geary as an infant. He attended Geary Schools and graduated from Geary High School with the Class of 1955 where he was a National Land Judging Champion.  He worked as a Butcher and Meat Market Manager for over 50 years.  He worked in Geary at McNeely’s IGA and also in Yukon and Oklahoma City for Snyder's Grocery Stores.  He married Jewel Wohl July 17, 1985 in Wheeler, TX.  He could be described as a workaholic.  Buddy loved working with horses, breaking them in his younger years, and raising cattle.  He also loved to fish and quail hunt.  He spent countless hours watching old westerns, rodeos and horse sales on television.  He was a member of The Geary and Yukon Round Up Clubs, and a member of the Geary Rod and Gun Club.

 Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Hazel Mathews, 2 brothers, Delmar and Kenny Mathews and 1 sister, Laveta Ward.

Survivors include, wife, Jewel Mathews, 4 children, Michael L. Mathews of Sayre, OK, Tamela Mathews of Sayre, OK, Mike Mathews and wife Deborah of Geary, OK, and Erica Lewis of El Reno, OK, 3 grandchildren, Meagan Mathews, Morganne Hartley, Marshall Mathews, 1 great grandchild, Noah Sanders and one more on the way as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
