Dixie Morene (Strain) Stephenson Obituary

Dixie Morene Stephenson was born on November 16, 1942, near Sickles, Oklahoma, to William Marshall “Dick” and Flora Aledine (Martin) Strain. She began her schooling in Sickles and graduated from Lookeba High School.

Following graduation, Dixie moved to Oklahoma City with some friends and went to work for Pinkerton’s Detective Agency. During her years there, she even starred in a coffee machine commercial filmed in their office—an experience that reflected her personality and charm. After dating for several years, Dixie married Walter Stephenson on March 23, 1963, in Lookeba, Oklahoma, at the Pentecostal Church while Walter was home on a two-week leave from the U.S. Army.

The couple made their home in Oklahoma City while Walter completed his military enlistment. During this time in Oklahoma City, Dixie enjoyed being part of a bowling team and loved going dancing. Eventually, Walter and Dixie moved their growing family to Hinton, Oklahoma, where they purchased and operated a television repair shop.

Dixie and Walter became faithful members of First United Methodist Church in Hinton, where Dixie served as a Sunday School teacher and helped with the youth group for many years. Throughout her life, she was known as a dedicated and hardworking woman. She later worked as the office manager of Anadarko Dozer, and for a time as a security guard at the prison and at Entz Chemical.

In 2023, Dixie and Walter moved to Yukon, Oklahoma, to be closer to family and her medical providers as her health began to decline.

Dixie was a hard worker in every season of life. She loved tending her garden and flower beds, had a wonderful sense of humor, and was known for her wit, warmth, and laughter. She will be remembered for her faith, devotion to her family, and the joy she brought to those around her.

She is survived by her husband, Walter Stephenson of Yukon, OK; three children, Brian Stephenson and wife Rachelle of Dallas, TX, Kelly Frazier and husband David of Perry, OK, and Teresa Stephenson of Yukon, OK; seven grandchildren, Alexandra Smith and husband Aaron of Ephrata, WA, Bailey Hazelbaker and husband Zack of Bethany, OK, Lauren Stephenson of Los Angeles, CA, Jacquelyn Schwickerath of Omaha, NE, Michael Stephenson of Dallas, TX, Brendan Schwickerath of Yukon, OK, and Elizabeth Stephenson of Galveston, TX; and five great-grandchildren, Charlie Hazelbaker, Abram Smith, Gideon Hazelbaker, Audie Smith, and Linden Smith. She is also survived by two siblings, Linda Kimble of Hinton, OK, and Richard Strain of Fort Cobb, OK, as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Dixie was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings Jackie Strain, LaTrecia Thomason-Olin and her husband Steve, and one infant sister.

Dixie’s family invites you to celebrate her life at First United Methodist Church in Hinton, OK. February 15, 2026, at 2PM.  Dixie's life was full of love and enthusiasm, and the family asks that you dress accordingly.
