Cody Allen Thornton was born on October 22, 1984 in Oklahoma City, OK to Danny Thornton and Brenda (West) Murphy. Cody passed away on November 29, 2023 in Kerrville, TX at the age of 39. Cody grew up in Fort Worth, TX for part of his childhood and then moved to Hinton, OK, graduating from Hinton High School. Cody liked to farm and work cattle with his grandfather, Allen West, and later he liked working his own cattle. Cody worked in the oilfield for a time and worked as a diesel mechanic as well. Cody had a good soul and a big heart. He loved his family and will be greatly missed by all those who loved him.

Cody is survived by his children, Taver and Tinzlee Thornton of Hinton, OK, his mother, Brenda Murphy of Hinton, OK, his father, Danny Thornton of  Minco, OK, his sister, Alecia Shelton and husband Josh and nephews, Kyson and Kase Shelton of Elk City, OK, his brother, Michael Southerland of NM, his sister, Terra Southerland-Davis of CO, and his sister, Brandi Southerland of Kerrville, TX, his grandmothers, Arline West of Hinton, OK,  and Bobbie Thornton of Minco, OK, his uncle, Bryan West of Hinton, OK, his aunt, Ronnie Dodson-Thornton of Mustang, OK, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cody was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Allen West and Dub Thornton, his step-father, Jimmy Murphy, and his brother, Chris Southerland.

Viewing will be held at Hinton Turner Funeral Home, Sunday 1 PM-9 PM, Monday and Tuesday 9AM- 9 PM, December 3-5, 2023, Hinton, OK
